St. Pattie's day shows?

Sign in to disble this ad
So who all is playing, or attending, a show on St. Pattie's day? if so, is there anything special you're planning on doing?

I personally am doing one with my band, which is a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. It's bad because load-in is at 9:00, but I don't get out of class until 10:00. It's good because it means I can play with my new black parts- P-bass onstage for the first time.

I'm not doing one on the actual day (next Thursday), but I'm doing one this Saturday night with the St. Pattys theme... in a downtown Irish themed bar.

We pulled a band together with players from three different bands to do the same gig a year ago, and went over so big we got booked back the next day for this year. Heading to rehearsal in an hour or so.

We have a bizarre St. Paddy's day thing going on. We're at a club downtown that pays REALLY well. We were part of their regular rotation until recently, when they decided they were going with younger bands as a rule and original acts to boot.

So, they let all of the other bands that play "the Circuit" go, and they wanted us to finish out March.

Then..... They decided that we weren't going to play March after all, and cancelled the remaining gigs. It's all cool, whatever.

So then..... They asked us if we could play St. Paddy's day. It just so happens that the Thursday St. Paddy's day falls on is immediately before the Fri-Sat gig that they cancelled........

Sooooo...... We are playing St. Paddy's day for a whole lot of money because they cancelled our weekend thing, and the singer apparently has mad negotiating skills.

But wait!! There's more!

Now it would appear that not only are we getting a whole lot of money for Thursday...... We're back on the calendar for the weekend as well.

There's still a whole week to go, but that's where we are at present.

I'm playing at DC101's Shamrock Fest.

national shamrockfest 2011 - the official page

Pretty psyched. From a head count perspective, it could be the biggest show of my life.

Playing on Friday night because the Karaoke hucksters convinced the bar owners not to cancel their regular Karaoke night. Played on St Patricks day last couple of years ....lots of fun. Hopefully we will get a rowdy crowd on Friday night also.

I'm gonna say you will, given that st. pattie's day is on thursday, a good number of people are just gonna go out on friday and be hungover on saturday rather than go to work hungover on a friday.

Why are people using "St Pattie's" day? It's "St Paddy's"..being a Paddy myself I am fairly certain about that.

Playing a late night gig myself in the deep south of Ireland, potentially a very messy night given the amount of stout that'll be put away..

Your stories are always awesome! Never a dull moment!

We are playing this weekend and decided any gig in March is a St. Pattys gig! So.......thats as close as we get this year!

I'm playing in austin, tx at the south by southwest on the actual day of saint patty's day. I'm pretty happy considering I'm irish and my plane, hotel, and rental will be payed for and not out of my pocket.

No, but did that once about five years ago, was the only non Irish band on the bill, which was supposed to "break things up a little". A bunch of drunk old ladies chanted "Irish, Irish Irish" through half of our first set.

Thats when you say "Irish? You want some Irish?! I've got your Irish right here!" followed by you whipping it out.

Subtle, real subtle!

I prolly would have went with "Irish you'd shut the **** up!" If that didn't work, then I might try pulling out the old shillelagh.....

Playing a local bar that we play twice a month or so at. It seems to be the only one around that has live music anymore.

That would be an even more awesome line if your frontperson was a small Japanese dude.
