Only you can decide how much gear is too much to haul around.

You need to determine if the gear you bring is sufficient to the gig. I play in a fairly loud Rock'n'Roll cover band, but most times a 210 combo suffices. We have PA support, and our stage volume is loud, but not ridiculously so. Outdoor gigs, I'll add a 115. I could bring more...but why?

Are you playing in a very loud group? Do you have help hauling your gear? Are you able to hear yourself onstage with less, or do you need it all just to keep up?

What works for me may not work for you.

I've played small bars with and without a PA with my 2x10 combo and it's never been a problem for me. A 2x15 and a 2x10 isn't overkill by any means, though. 4 8x10s is overkill.

exactly the same: 2 x 10 combo does the trick, for more oomph add a 115. More than loud enough.

Same here. I have a 350 watt amp. We have PA support so really the stage gear is just to monitor our playing. Most of the time I just use the 2x10 and can walk into any gig in one trip. Amp in a case with shoulder strap, utility bag with shoulder strap, bass in one hand, 2x10 in the other.

I really wonder at all the 1000 watt amps available today. I'm thinking that any kind of group that needs that kind of power would be better off with a PA, both in volume and mix.

I bring a 6x10 and a 6sp rack case with amp/wireless/effects in it. I like to feel the bass and not just hear it

I don't think you can find a true "One size fits all" kind of a amp.
I've pulled together some things and I feel I have the right amps for what ever the room calls for.
From a single 15 with a 300watt S.S. head to a dozen 10's with a couple of heads.

For a small bar...Yup.

You can get away with hauling 1/4 of your gear.

2x10 would more than llikely be plenty but, 1x15 plus the 2x10 at modest volumes will sound very round and fat.
