Stage moves

Stage move ideas anybody?

I like falling to my knees, leaning over as far as I can, putting the bass behind my head, looking down the neck like a gun barrel, but those are all weak sauce.

I plan on picking up the next extremely cheap bass I see so I can practice doing the Jaco balancing act, maybe spinning it around my back, etc.

I tried moonwalking today, but I just can't...

I don't dig the falling/kneeling/laying down stuff at all. Moving with the music is my goal. I'm not good at it yet but I know I need to step up my game a bit and get moving around. Maybe get closer to the edge of the stage and bump fists or shake hands. Here's a video of me at a benefit. I needed to jump around or something but I didn't. I was just letting my fingers fly.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGgEyQXkSkk Bass solo at 5:40

Here's what I do:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2U1ysIEyqc

A lot of it isn't really so much moves that I'm doing in addition to playing the notes - I'm really just playing the notes with a lot of inefficient, unnecessary effort. As I wrote in another thread a couple of weeks ago, don't play notes like a boxer throws punches. Play notes like a professional wrestler throws punches.

I have never once thought about it, which is probably why I still get hired.

You are real stiff up there.

The secret to great stage presence is to really feel the music and just groove. It should feel like meditation. At that point you loosen up and you will develop stage presence.

Thanks man, I am going to do exactly that at next show. I always used to try to be just like John Paul Jones. My drummer would compliment me for being "A Rock". I guess it's best to get like you are and don't need to even think about it.

I dont have stage moves. The music moves through me and I am but a puppet on stage.

Exactly..be yourself.

Some people are stiff, but usually stiffness = over thinking.

So just feel the music and be comfortable in your skin.

That is why they always say girls want to bang musicians..is not because we are up there shredding or playing some cool song. It is because we are comfortable and confident in a situation many people find to be daunting.

If you're thinking about your moves before hand there is a word for that.... It rhymes with "hoser"

I think the OP is just trying to mix it up and put on a show. I'd like to see some video of what he's doing. The most important thing is staying locked in with the drummer and hitting notes that work.

I've said it before, but Yoshihiro Naruse is the master of stage presence.

Personally, I don't like when the stage moves. Makes it hard to play the bass.

A few I enjoy doing:
-Sort of semi-crouching and headbanging like mad
-When doing slides down, holding the bass up in the air vertically with the left hand only and letting it slide down
-Quickly jerking the neck up starting from your shoulder (preferably just before going into a really epic, intense part
-Holding the bass in front of you whenever playing dead notes
-Just straight up crouching and laying down on the ground while flailing around like a maniac

I think putting your left foot up on the monitor and pointing your bass like a machine gun and shooting everyone in the crowd is still the best bass move. Thank you Steve Harris.
