Established band is STILL looking for the right bass player. We have been together for over 14 years and despirately seek the right guy/gal for the job. We are strictly a cover band, anything from 70's to current day. All rock music, no country/rap/dance/folk/acoustic/rockabilly. As long as the crowd likes it and we enjoy playing it (most important) anything is fair games with a few exceptions (see previouse sentence). Over the years a few things have changed (1) we're are all maaried with kids now (2) we really do not want to travel out of state anymore (3) we want to play no more than 2 times per month (4) we're all in our thirties. Each member is seasoned and does this to keep their chops up (and the money aint bad either). We have dates booked already for the fall so time is critical here. Now, let me be frank for a minute. We have placed a couple of adds on here with a few auditions coming from those post, but we still havent found the right fit. Let me tell you a few things that may help in your decision regarding applying...

(1) If you have never played in a band, then this probably isn't the place to start
(2) If you are really a guitar player who from time to time has played bass when needed, stick with the guitar
(3) If you have had multiple DUIs which prevent you from traveling on your own or by cad to rehearsals or performances, then we might not see eye to eye
(4) If this is your first attempt at playing what you call the secular music scene, then stick to Wednesday night and Sunday mornings. You probably not going to like our occassional beer drinking, cursing, and rude comments about your wife/girlfriend.
(5) If you consider yourself metrosexual....please save us the time
(6) If you have a substance abuse issue...and havent completed treatment, then call us after...that is unless you have some to.....never mind
(7) If do not own a bass or amp/rig, don't bother
(8) If you were kicked out of your last band for your bad attitude, then we'll likely kick your ass too...and then throw you out
(9) If you have spent years recording really poor quality demos of your self, which you posted on youtube and set up a self serving website with a "bio", then we will probably not be able to meet your ego needs.
(10) If having a good time while enjoying the music and time envolved in making a band work doesn't appeal to you, then you'll hate us.
(11) If you live over 150 miles from the rest of us, but eagerly willing to travel each week to rehearse, I really doubt it will last long.
(12) If you do not have a phone number, working email, or physical address in which to contact you, please dont bother.
(13) If you cannot tune your instrument....drop dead
(14) If you spend more time on hair and make up before a show than the rest of us, your going to make us feel uncomfortable at best.
(15) If you havent changed the strings on your bass in 2 years and see no reason to do so until one breaks, then your not the guy for the job,
(16) Do you know what a root note is? If not, hook up with the guy from number 9, he'll mentor you
(17) If you think that your social calender will interfere with rehearsals or performances, find a college band to play with

Now I know the list may scare a few of you, but honestly a true bass player with the right stuff wont have issues with any of the above. If your damn good musician, family guy, who likes to get up on stage and rock the crowd, then you already in the running. Dont be a chicken ****, reply. We will be auditioning more this week.

I checked them out on Myspace ...They have a good number of dates booked

They have a couple of songs on there also, so you will get to play some John Entwistle and Barry Oakley AND they seem to have the "Chicks at shows" thing going on judging by the pictures.

Loved that list. It was both funny and spells it out really well.

Secular, or not - #4 makes them sound like a bunch of jerks to me. I don't reconcile being 'family guys' with tolerating dissing on each others girlfriends/wives.

Sounds to me like they just want to ward off the drama-queens and attempt to find someone whose open and doesn't take things to seriously, a quality which can be surprisingly useful in stressful situations. The ability to remain calm when something serious and potentially bad happens makes for an easier to settle situation.

Man, the frustration is palpable! Just goes to show you; a reliable, honest, semi-talented bassist is worth his/her weight in gold!

"We are all married with kids now"... lol

Guess they are meaning "we are all married and have kids now" and not "We are all married to kids now".

So critical

Actually it sounds like we would get along well, minus to far away and I like to play originals.

Agreed. Obviously #15 was posted by a guitarrist.

However, they seem to have gigs and a following and understand adult responsibilities. Assuming they might not have been joking about #4, and they probably can't tell #15 anyway, I might actually consider trying out with this band.

Gotcha. I'm a pretty laid-back guy, anti-drama, but I guess we all have particular 'hot buttons' and that would just be a particular one of mine. Point taken.

So what's that supposed to mean? "We all dress like Larry the Cable Guy, and you should too?" Or just "Don't show up to the gig dressed like Liberace?" What's their threshold for showing off some rock 'n' roll style? How macho do you have to be to hang with these guys?

Here in New York, "metrosexual" is not really a pejorative term. But unless these guys are from Birmingham England - not Birmingham Alabama - well, it is the Deep South after all...

Translation: I'm threatened by gays, or anybody with a remote sense of style, because I secretly want to wear frilly pink underwear and 4" heels to truck stops.

Definitely Birmingham, Alabama. Not England.

Pity, really. Sounds like my sort of band.
