Stolen instrument, maybe?

My instructor told me this, and it made me laugh and my heart race at the same time so I'll share it here.

He had just got done with a gig, put his bass back in the bag and was loading up his car, when he came back from the car his bass was gone. He looked around for it, no one knew where it was, and he plays a decent Schecter with active pus, it has a great tone. He finally gave up dejected and went home to try to sleep, next day he went back to ask the bartender and anyone else if they'd seen it, turns out the guy who manages the place knows him, saw his bass, was like "well, don't want him to get it stolen" and locked it in his office, then left.

Oh, and he didn't tell anyone he'd done this.

So in the end he got it back and could laugh about it, but he told me from here on out, he's just going to make sure it goes out with the first run so he doesn't have that happen to him again.

I usually lock the car on the way back into the bar for the next load. Or if I have help, someone stays out by the car, waits, and takes the next load in once the guy that took the first load in comes out again. That way someone is in sight of the car at all times.

But I'm paranoid, growing up in Detroit.

Pretty stupid on the part of the manager, especially not telling anyone. You take something that belongs to another and don't tell anyone? That's theft right there.

He's lucky the entire band doesn't teach him a lesson.

Ah sod it, he got it back didn't he? From the sounds of it the guy wasn't trying to nick it just leaving it in the office...

I think the guy's heart was in the right place trying to look out for his buddy's instrument. Unfortunately, his brain wasn't quite working as well as his heart.
