This is the only bass player joke I've ever heard. Must say something for all of us considering the wealth of jokes about other instrumentalists.

Guy walks into a music shop and want to learn the bass. He signs up for lessons and sits down for his first one.

Teacher says "Ok this is what you work on first. Pick one string and pluck it like this '1-2-3-4'. Then come back in a week once you've gotten that."

The guy practices and comes back...no problem "1-2-3-4 I've got it." The teacher says "Ok good, now learn it double time: 1-and-2-and-3-and-4-and. Practice that and come back next week."

Next week comes and the guy never shows. 2 weeks pass and still nothing. Finally 3 months later and he comes strolling through the door.

Teacher says "Hey man, long time. You came in here for 2 lessons and then disappeared. Where have you been?"

"On tour."

I hears a variant (here on TalkBass.)

Dad decides do get his son bass lessons.

"Son, how was your first lesson?"

"Great, Dad. I learned to play the first 4 frets on the E string."

"That's Fine, Son."

"Son, how was your second lesson?"

"Great, Dad. I learned to play the first 4 frets on the A string."

"That's fine, Son."

"Son, how was your third lesson?"

"I blew it off, Dad. I had a gig."

If it wasn't true, it wouldn't be funny.

More of a riddle than a joke - I head Jeff Berlin ask this one:

What's the difference between a large cheese pizza and a jazz bassist?
