slightly off general topic, but relates to this quote.
i did submit 'bass tabs' to ultimate-guitar.com, do the song 'all is full of love' by bjork and i specified they were bass tabs, but i wrote it out as a chord chart (there is no guitar in the song..) and the reviewers posted it as 'guitar chords'.. |

I brought in a Roland DB 500 160watt amp, not enormous but easily big enough for a school hall.
I had it in the music room, and I was sat on it jamming with myself, and one of the english teachers comes in, and his band are playing, it's all staff.
He's brought his gear in, and we've all sound checked with mine (there were other student bands) and the mics and stuff, and he goes "we're using my amp" I was like "but we've all used mine.." etc
He asks how powerful it is I say 160w
He says "What?! I **** more power than that!"
I was like WHAT! You're a teacher how are you so RUDE!
Bastard
He's got good gear so he assumes his good, half the studnets are better than him, he just has more money than them, being an adult.... |

Besides, that song falls into the one riff a lot of people know, or think they know... such as "Smoke on the Water" or the Hallelujah Chorus in classical music.

This is usually said when somebody posts something that isn't a 5 pound amp and tiny single speaker cab. It's like some people can't believe that anyone can prefer old, large heavy gear over all this new lightweight stuff. Anyways, I decide what's needed. The sound and volume fit my band and my tastes and that's all that matters. More power to you for enjoying your lightweight amps and cabs, but I'll stick with my mountain... http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...894149897e.jpg
"Instead of tuning to drop C on your 4 string, just go buy a 5 and play in standard" (bonus points if they suggest in some way that drop tunings = a less skilled musician)
I want to dropkick babies in their soft heads when I see this.
For certain styles of music, the "go buy a 5 and play in standard" approach won't work. Drop tunings make things easier, reaches that would be completely impractical, and things like that. I don't know if it makes me a less skilled musician or anything, but it helps out in a band setting to just tune to the guitars. Can't see anything wrong with making things easier for everyone. *shrugs*
I tune to drop B on my four strings and all I need to say as far as tone, is that a 135 tuned to B sounds nothing like a 110.
It's pretty rediculous anyways to say.."hey, instead of paying for new, larger strings, just go spend several hundred more on a bass". "OMG DO YOU LIKE PETE WENTZ?"
"OMG DO YOU LIKE..."
*this is where I swiftly remove the offenders head with a gnarly uppercut.*
I don't know, that's all that came to mind right now. I don't really get into much bass talk outside of TB. ha
Anyways, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! HAIL SATAN... uhhhmm... I mean...SANTA! | Wow, is this a regional thing? I live in the 219, and I swear I heard all 3 of these in one week! Yes, I like my 4 string in drop C, yes, I need ALL of those speakers, and yes, I DO like Pete Wentz! (even if he does suck live) |

Their response is quite often "Wow you must be awesome!" I should take that as a compliment, but in all honesty I'm no better than others. I dunno, just always made me think.

"The E and the A string is all a bass player should need to do the job properly,If you want to play fancy stuff on the skinny strings then you should be playing lead guitar.I also have another standard bass that I have pulled the d and g strings off the guitar but it has no impact live like this beast."
| Or maybe you can't build a bass properly?
