ok so i was in town yesterday and i wanted to try a envelope pedal so i asked "scuse me can i try this pedal on bass" so he said "ok wait here a second" so then called me in the room and he had a guitar set up with the pedal so i said "scuse me, i wanted to try this pedal with a bass not a guitar." and his reply was "arnt they the same thing"
at that point i left the shop depressed

But your typical music store employee sees what, about 50 guitarists for every bass player. So guitar is how they are likely to think.
IMO you missed an opportunity.

Lots ended being McDonnald's, Blockbusters or Home Depots too. Chains have a common philosophy for staff: no in-depth training about whatever they're selling. Sucks. |

I took that as my queue to leave and never go back. Shame because it was one of those place that has 95% complete junk but 5% actually cool random weird stuff. |

I can't think of any other practical uses off the top of my head.

| | | | Il give a stupid music shop story, but with lthe idiocy on the other side: mine!
So me and a music n00b were out looking for a new bass, and visited the two main shops in town. At the first shop I talked like I knew loads about basses, (Iv only been playing for two years) but the n00b didn't know any better and assumed that I knew what I was talking about. So my favourite bass in one shop was £365,
We traveled to the next shop and I tried a guitar which didn't have a price tag on, just cus it looked nice. Played it for a bit then I turn to n00b and say "I like it, I'd be surprised if was any less than the one inthe other shop." asked the shop assistant, how much it was. £109. A beginners bass! So then I had to bluff my way out of this mistake explaining why I was unable to tell the difference! |
