Neato!!!
Their bassist has to go out of town the weekend of their next gig, and when my husband got home from rehearsal last night, he brought me their set list. They decided I would be the best choice, because I've heard all their songs forever, and can handle 'em all with no problem. Their bassist specifically recommended me.
Such faith!!! LOL!
I've played a few of their originals, but mostly not. Their show is 80-90% original, so...woodsheddin' time for me!!!
Our band's not busy right now. Guitarist has had to travel a *lot* for his job. He's been mostly gone for a month and a half. We play this weekend, and on NYE, and that's it for now. But, since we haven't been rehearsing either, we have a lot of work to do starting next week. We need new material.
Also, I'm pretty much house bassist for our jam now, since the regular guy can't make it half the time. Some players from that jam have asked me to take two other side projects...cover bands for the purpose of taking pickup gigs or making extra money when our regular bands aren't working much.
WOW!!! Its a good thing. Mom moved to assisted living, so I'm out of a day job. I think my day job is practicing, now.
Just...so flattered that hubby's original band asked me to work with them. They have two other subs, but they asked me first. So nice!!!
I shouldn't be braggin'...but I'm awfully happy!!!

So...both of their existing albums, plus the half-dozen brand-new songs they've just started playing at gigs, plus their covers. Plus new material for my band (covers and origs), plus a truckload of new stuff for the jam/cover band-2nd project thingies.
Dang! Best get off the 'puter and get playin'!!! LOL!

Caring for my Mom (needed more physical therapy and professional care than I could give, etc.), I could just barely handle one band. Now that she's moved out, I have lots more time, and lots less money. Subbing is gooooood!!! LOL!

Practice as much as you can. My motto: when you're sick of the song, you're ready to play it in public.

"The What The He11 Song" is a funny song about the different personality quirks of the band members. There's a bit about the bassist and the drummer. Knowing their singer as well as I do, I'm sure he's got a funny line for me.

The bartender at our local place told me last night that hubby's been in there bragging on me all week. They're all coming up to the other bar next week to see us play. So...I *have* to be really good. That man's been building 'em all up like the circus is coming to town! LOL!
I also must thank God for making sure I have all this time on my hands, to learn all these songs. If I were employed in a regular job right now, I'd never have the time.

When's the gig?
And of course, let us know how it goes.

Thankfully, the songs themselves are not difficult. I'm mostly listening for their bassist's style, the way he does fills, etc. I am a "busier" player than he is, and I need to make sure I don't get carried away and forget to leave their guitarists some space. Also gotta make sure I do the backup vocals the same way he does. Don't want to be clashing with their way of doing things.
This'll be good for me.
The gig's next Saturday. I practice with them this coming Tuesday. So, I need to have the tunes nailed down by then. Thirty originals and two covers.
I've had the space heater on in my practice room since 3 this morning. (North facing room, huge windows, in shade all the time, 23F this mornin'.) Woke up, couldn't go back to sleep, so I shut the door and practiced a while.
Its danged ***cold*** in the woodshed today!!! LOL!
