Overall not bad. The recording itself could be better. Was it mixed/mastered? I won't say that you were totally Newstead'd, but I had to strain a bit to hear you, especially in Rewind. It could also be my crap work speakers, though (even though Krokus still sounds epic on 'em!). The vocals on Wake Up needed something.... more? Not the singing itself, but again, the post-production part of it.
I this age of DIY recording, anyone can put up songs they did in a home studio. I think I better measure of your sound would be through a good live recording. Got any of those?
And just so I can say it one more time.... Krokus.

Rather shaky timing, sounds like he's not been playing very long? But it's not only the drummer, the band as a whole is not tight yet. How long have you been playing together?
I like the music and the singing, there's potential in this. Bass playing was simple but fitting. |

And the electric guitar tone is rather cheap sounding -- like a $39.99 Boss Distortion pedal is his go-to. Nothing wrong with not having a ton of money to spend on things, but the tone really needs to be tweaked.

The recording quality makes it hard for me to listen...too much reverb and the mix is not great...(could be my Mac computer speakers though)...can listen to it later on my PC with monitors.

I do feel honored!
I'll be sure to mention today the mixing issues you brought up, over all I think the recordings are decent for 20/hr with free mixing |

Thanks! :bass ist: | Here goes.....As far as recording, it was fairly slick coming through my Logitech 5 speaker (including sub) sound system.
Rewind - Overall I liked it. Specific issues - the kick drum was the most noticable. Overall timing seemed to run pretty straight, just the kick, especially on the doubles, was often not in time. The lead guitar break was timid, like they weren't totally sure what they were playing. Vocals could use some effects to give it them a little warmth and reverb which is also more forgiving with pitchy spots. Maybe a bit more boost on the treble end for more clairty. Everything else sounded good.
Wake Up - I didn't care for. Must have been a different recording session. The kick drum was gone and other parts, including the bass were weak.
Fallin - Nice acoustic song. About the only thing is the same as above - vocal could use some help in the warmth and reverb area.
A few corrections and some polish should make them better.

I agree on the need for a break. The bass lead was fun but maybe too subtle.
I don't want to hijack this dude's thread ... so, maybe I'll make a new post somewhere... |

| | | | while the music itself is not my taste, I'm gonna put that aside and say the following:
1) vocals are pretty darn good, and I think it could benefit a lot with some backup vocal harmonies on the chorus.
2) the tone of the guitars is a bit off, I'm not sure what it needs all I can say is that the EQ on his amp or something needs some tweaking. The lead guitarist in my band can make his crate 212 combo scream like the rhythm guitarists custom 212 combo, so it's probably not their gear.
3) tightening up overall would be a good thing, as well as some better production overall - maybe you're just not mic'ing well enough. Whatever it is, it is good overall, but could be better.
4) I can just barely hear the bass. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
