So I found out recently that some conversations you can have on TB do not translate well into real life.
The GM at my work likes to noodle around on guitar. He has no dreams of being in a band, he just enjoys it. He claims that his knowledge about guitars is that when he does this with his hands (insert air-strumming), sound comes out.
He came up to me today and asked me, unfortunately around several non-musicians, why his guitars kept going out of tune.
Things you can say on Talkbass but not in real life?
"Have you tried lubing your nuts?" I'm glad the awkward laughter and staring caught my attention before I offered to show him how. |

I guess no one else got it.

Some people just enjoy making their own music with protools/cubase/what have you, and are content with that.
One big difference between talkbass and the real world, just like the rest of the internet, is that people are quick to be judgmental of people and their chosen way to play bass.

And some guy named "Neo" who keeps popping up in the Amps forum.

Riis | Do I buy the blue bass? Or the red bass?

Or wax poetic about the nuances that amp XXX has on the gig as well.
Just because your bank account allows you to have some great gear does NOT mean you have the knowledge that goes with some of that gear.

Another thing that's entertaining, people that like to talk like their way beyond their actual skill level, but in doing so has pointed themselves out...

Can someone point me to a thread or explain to the slow-wit what the 'carrot' joke was? It's driving me nuts.

I was playing a gig the other day with a band that's probably played 100 shows the last 2 years, and their bass player's EQ was so bad he was clipping his amp all show.

The bottom line is that you can spend as little and as much as you like, or would like, but the only real truth is how much enjoyment do YOU get from the gear you have and use. Does the guy with the wine and caviar budget really enjoy playing his bass anymore than the kid with his sticker covered beater in the garage? Probably not.
