Anyone get technical amnesia? I'm not just talking scales & modes, or well rehearsed bits of songs that "just go" but equipment as well.
Now, I'm not the most technically minded person in terms of equipment, but know enough to get by, but I had a rehearsal last night, I swore I never heard of music whatsoever.
I was full of "stick the thingy into the thingy. What actually does gain do? Where's the "on" button? (on an amp Ive had for about 15 years) Where's d?" Not really so bad questions had I just started playing, but with over 20 years playing bass and guitar (and another 10 on top of that playing piano), I should know at this stage!
Anyone ever caught just blindly standing (or sitting) with your bass, and you have just taken a complete amnesia attack? |

It could happen, a lack of nutrition may be responsible |

I was playing a very simple blues tune at a gig and suddenly forgot where the notes where. For a second the bass just looked like a bunch of strings tied to a stick, what was I doing there, where did my beer go?

Rhythm was flowing through the room and it was all because of him. I chimmed in. A nod of his head signaled he acknowledged my groove with his rhythm. I could see the black lines of the bass clef flowing around the room. With each pulse another set of lines sprang into the air, along with them, an array of notes leaped from above the drum. They were my cue, they were my only clue. And this was good. I heard a noise. "What the hell is THAT?!" I exclaimed to myself. I looked over in the general direction where I heard this odd screetch.
My fingers were still dancing away on top of the strings, dodging, ducking, and hopping over and out of the way of the drums.
"What the f*** is that f****g shreek?" More confused now, almost fascinated by this odd pulse.
In the corner of the room I saw a black box. Peculiar. I had never noticed such a structure before. Who put it there? Did they know what they were doing? And why would they do such a thing?
Standing in the middle of my line of site I saw two legs. I paid no attention to who they belonged to, I only knew that I saw two legs directly in front of this strange contraption.
A voice began to fall from above the legs. I could hear it, but had no clue what it said. Fascinated. Intrigued. Worried. All correct emotions. It was talking to me, I knew that much. But I didn't have a translator.
"ANDY!!!"
"Huh??!" As I fell down from a euphoric trance.
"Are you going to fix this or what?"
"Fix what?"
"You said you were going to fix my amp. I was showing you what's wrong with it."
Horrified at this point, I wanted to run. But THEY expected things of me.
"So what's wrong with it?"
"It sounds possessed." I had to be honest. I didn't think there could be any alternative.
"The f*** does that mean?"
"I dunno. But you're either using that box to torture some breed of nuclear bat or that capacitator's a little loose."
"You want some water?" Did he really say that?
"NO! Don't put water near your amp."
"For you jacka$$."
"Oh...yeah."
And with that break, I grabbed a bottle of water. I felt I had won this battle. Still not too sure what I won, but, I had indeed won...
or maybe that's not the same as your story?
