Teen Bass Depression Help D:

Sign in to disble this ad
Here's the thing... I'm 15 years old and I'm in third grade of high school. One day in arts class our teacher announced us to make an invented commercial, so a guitarist friend and me planned to make one announcing tickets to a RHCP concert.

So the day of the commercial, he didn't bring his guitar, so we changed and announced a Victor Wooten concert and I played a part of Me and my Bass Guitar and then a part of Classical Thump, may sound weird, but I got so nervous that I couldn't hear my little 15 watts amp... when I finished everyone clapped... but then someome said to me that it sounded that crappy noice... and many questioned me if I was a good bassist... and I wanted to proove it, not say it... so I got kind of depressed... then arrived to my home and realized that the amp was having problems, the sound was awful, it really sounded like crappy noice... What should I do to feel better and shut up friends that say I'm bad...

Sometimes even a good player can't overcome betrayal from the equipment.

Nobody really is going to care, TBH. If you sound amazing, great, 20 kids in the class will clap and that'll be the end of it. It sounded bad, and 19 kids clapped, and one kid (who would've found something wrong no matter what) made you feel bad. Either way, it'll be forgotten in a week. Don't worry about impressing kids at school, and don't be nervous. If you are so nervous playing in front of your class you can't hear your bass, how are you going to handle playing a show in front of hundreds of people who are paying to be entertained?

And later on down the road, there are gonna be shows that are so awesome that you're totally going to forget about little situations like this, and there are going to be shows that are so embarrassing and awkward that you wish you could be playing in front of your class again

Something happened to me in high school that at the time was pretty traumatic. I thought it would be the end of the world, at the time. I can't remember what it was though.

Really, the only thing to do is to one day become a star... break all the girls hearts and steal the guys' girlfriends.

Or, set up a gig at a party and make sure you're equipment is working.

Just play the middle bit of "Orion" really softly and soulfully. It'll get any girl inside your pants. For some reason, they don't get turned on so much by Charlotte the Harlot...

Just means you fix such issues, practice till you are 1/2 dead and prepare next time.

Then they see a dramatic improvement.
You can use this as an opportunity, both to motivate and to prove to everyone that you a bad mofro bassist.

Do not get mad/depressed, get even and fix that, otherwise that mico will always be on your back.

Whether you negative motivation of more positive motivation, whatever gets you there. The bass will take the negative and make it positive. If it's positive, then you already are happy playing.

Either way you win.
Cheap stuff? Well, that's how many started out. It's the player, not the equipment, well, sometimes it is the equipment.........

As said, you'll not even worry about this stuff in a few, time heals all wounds.

Don't worry man. I've had the exact same troubles. Just don't think too hard about it and you'll be fine. Like 60's Bluesman said, there is only one person you need to prove yourself to, you. By the way, I personally prefer mindless shredding to get the girls. It works great.
