Working on a cruise ship a few months ago. ``The summer breeze caress the trees, tender.......crash! my strap breaks. I played the next couple of numbers holding my bass up with 2 fingers of my right hand and took everything up an octave because it was all segued.

Had the same thing happen recently... dropped to one knee and played the rest of the song from a kneeling position. Guitar player had a spare strap... and the band played on....

It happened to me once as well and that's when I used the stage monitors to prop up a knee and rest it there. Luckily, it was the last song of the set and I had another strap. I always make a point to have a spare now especially since all my basses have the Schaller straplocks.

Would have used a monitor, but I would've had to kick the sax players over the edge of the stage!
