Something to the effect of "your fingers are going fast." They mean it as a compliment and enjoy watching. Usually referring to right hand.

After making an effort to cut through the mix more (boosting mids, cutting lows... we play in a "boomy" room), I was told that that it was a "great, clear bass sound." Granted, she's a friend of mine, but she's not the most musically inclined person, so it was pretty cool that she noticed the change and liked it.

When my fiance or my friends are with me when I'm just messing around and they say "Play that again, it sounded really cool." Or when I pull my 4 string out of its case and somebody says "Damn that looks nice."

This week, our girl singer made a very flattering remark about my "talent" via email. That felt good.

From the singer of the band we were supporting: "You're a much better bassist than our one"

We're still talking about bass playing right....

I like hearing phrases along the lines of "Solid and groovin", with the occasional "Badass" thrown in there.

"Hey, it's XXXXXX. We would like you to come play this gig/band/recording/etc."

That says everything it needs to.

Yes, but I wish she'd let me show her a few of my other talents! But that would probably ruin the band.

Most of the bassists I've met are pretty arrogant.

Said to me as a musician or a bass player?

As a musician:
- "I love your singing voice. It's round and smooth and very pleasant listening to" but in swedish (I belong to a minority in Finland that speaks swedish). That came from a very attractive girl, a friend of our drummer that evening. I drove her home that evening too... That was three weeks ago and she's kind of stuck on my mind... She's a singer too, which makes the compliment even more valuable.

As a bass player:
- That I'm a f*****g great bass player. Haven't heard that from the pros I know though....
