Most people would never describe me as uptight or humorless, but I don't see a shred of humor or anything else that justifies mockery in that performance. The music is undoubtedly based on some scales, structures and other culturally-based forms that are foreign to Americans; but, for all the wonderful things America offers, many Americans are unbelievably parochial. Sadly, some feel compelled to ridicule anything they fail to understand.
Those who find that video funny and mock it are speaking volumes about their own shortcomings of exposure, intelligence, imagination and tolerance. I doubt the players in the video suffer from those same shortcomings.
Bluesy Soul | Dude, lighten up before your head explodes. Just because it's foreign doesn't mean anyone has to like it, nor does it mean that someone who doesn't like it has "shortcomings".

NO ONE said anyone had to like it and I never mentioned people who "didn't like it". I'm talking about posters who ridiculed it, mocked it, laughed at it and criticized it. There's a huge disctinction between that and not liking it--if your own exposure, intelligence, imagination and (in)tolerance can comprehend that. Like, do you dig the difference? Dude?

Bluesy Soul | So basically, I guess I just don't like you or your condescending opinions. I can appreciate the fact that you brought a different POV to this thread, but the way you delivered the message and then responded to me personally was pure suck...DUDE.

Bluesy Soul | The bass player was awful and his tone sucked. Hell... he missed most of the pops and his slides sounded terrible.
To me, the rest of the music was ok. But the bass was not good at all.

I stand by them.
And to those who think that the quality of the bass playing is justification for mockery, ridicule, etc.--as if their appreciation of world music and predominant Middle Eastern bass technique were the basis for any kind of comparison--are you serious!? Are you THAT insecure? Stop kidding yourself! Stand up close to the urinal.

Bluesy Soul | Wow. Not that I could follow your convoluted, flip-flopping logic from the beginning, but in trying to untangle that mess of a response you just posted above I realized that the effort is just making me dumber and is just giving you an opportunity to spout off even more ridiculousness. I'm actually mad that I allowed myself to be sucked into your trolling behavior.
Unsubscribed.

Watched the other video by the same title, a heavier camcorder version, and that bassist (the same?) played lefty.
Just my 0.02€

Bluesy Soul, you make me laugh. Chill out.

What's wrong with not liking you don't like? I don't care if I can't understand something or why it sounds the way it does; in fact, in a case like that, how I perceive the sound is even more important. I don't totally understand Indian ragas, yet it's only of my favorite genres of music. Oktar just sounds...off. Really off.

Bluesy Soul | Believe it or not turkish people can be ridiculous as well.
I'm turkish, I know it firsthand.
The only thing good about the video is that the guy playing the bass looks really happy |
