The cartoon bass player "Murdoc" of Gorillaz is the invisible keyboard player in Muse, Morgan Nichols. So he's a "faux" member of two huge bands!

Peter Tork is a pretty good rhythm guitar player. I've seen him play live, and he's got chops and can pull off that Monkees stuff. Didn't do much in the way of ripping leads but a very good rhythm player, which is a very overlooked skill by a lot of dudes who can slash and burn but not hold down time.

For what its worth, Tia Carerre (sp) had at least a semi successful music career. So its not a huge stretch to think she may have had enough musical ability to root note her way thru some classic rock.

Jermaine (as I have said in earlier capsule reviews) comes off like a cross between Jamerson & Jack Bruce...probably a bit too raw for studio-grade recording...that's why seasoned Pros (Jamerson, Felder, Brown, etc) were employed...it's what they do.

I agree on all acounts. His bass playing is pretty good too. His banjo playing, keyboard skills, and acoustic guitar playing are the most impressive to me. I think Mike Nesmith is a very good rhythm player as well.

A bit OT but....this picture makes me smile. If anyone ever has the opportunity to go to Graceland, do it. Elvis, as really the first superstar, is a very interesting guy; and the folks there do a great job telling the story. Highly recommended.

Mark Kozelek, who fronted Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon in real life, was the bassist in the fictional band Stillwater in Almost Famous, although I think he might have actually been brought in as the real musician of the band, being that he is an amazingly talented guitarist.

Here he is in the movie, on the far right:
