A band I sometimes play drums with got a gig at an outdoor celebration last night. It was supposed to be a great gig, backline and PA provided. All I had to do was show up with sticks. It was going to be fun. I get there and they want to do "Dixieland Delight" (yeah, I know...) I tell them I have never played that song, I haven't heard it in years and I would rather do something in it's place. I didn't want to be involved in a train wreck.
Sure as ####, they kicked it off, I missed tempo changes, etc. and it sucked. I looked like an idiot. I think that's the last time I play with them. I can't figure it out-- why they would knowingly take that risk?

An Alabama song played in Alabama?
I'm betting it went over great regardless of the train wreck.
I've been in that situation and just wanted to walk into the crowd and slap each and everyone of them for liking what just happened. |

You don't goof up on purpose, you don't simply stop. You argue and tell them off afterwards, off stage, if inclined. On stage, in front of a crowd, you try your best.
