Toughest gig...

This is my personal toughest, a gig we played yesterday evening. We were playing this corporate function, outdoors, but they were supposed to have a large tent erected which we were to set up in. But due to high winds (gusts probably 30-40 mph), the tent could not be set up. We had to play in unseasonably cool weather, with high wind and the setting sun in our faces. Our drummer couldn't keep his cymbal stands up, despite having them weighted and taped down to the mat. Lucky he didn't crack any cymbals. Mic stands were toppling over. By the 3rd and last set, the sun was going down and the temp was falling fast. My hands were going numb. Everyone was freezing.

It was a mess.

Mine would have to be either:

A 21st gig I did a couple of years ago, It wasn't that bad at the start, But after the first Metallica song, The crowd just wanted more. Eventually we have played our set list and then they started shouting metallica again! By this point there weren't any other songs that the 3 of us knew, so we played a few songs that I didnt know, the drummer/singer didnt know, and one that the guitarist didnt know.

This next one is kind of like your story accept...
It was at the annual show (kind of like a big fair, but it travels around, goes for 3 days in each town) and Me and another guitarist had been asked to play guitar, as well as a drummer who was already in the band to play with the Cairns Showband (basically a marching band)on the back of a truck. So on the Wednesday (it went wed.thur.fri) we got ready but it was raining in the middle of winter. so we couldnt do the proper routine, we had to stand underneath an open tent, so we didnt get wet, we couldnt stand up straight or we would hit the roof (not even me who was about 145 cm, I was 13 ok. the drummer was also on the truck and cymbols were sticking out in the rain, so, the drumms were soked. and so were my pups, the amps were underneath a tarp. On the thursday it was raining but it stoped long enough for us to do the usual routine. the only good day was Friday.

oh man, so many gigs that went off the tracks for some reason or other - maybe the one for the military academy who were expecting a top 40 band (we were a standards jazz band) where the piano player got drunk and started a fight with the singer?...or possibly the one where we played outside without a tent or shade as the temps went over 100 and the instruments stuck to our shirts as the finish came off onto us.... wait, there's more....
