Trials Of A Nice Guy Bass Player (season one, episode one)

Sign in to disble this ad
A few weeks ago, someone on here posted a link to the funniest video I'd seen in awhile - a text-to-speech generated movie with little CGI animals, talking about bad cover song requests from an obnoxious patron!

I don't know who created that, but I owe them for the laughter they created in me that day. I hope to pay back some small fraction of it with my own contribution to the Cute Animals Talking About Gigs comedy genre.

Presenting:

Trials Of A Nice Guy Bass Player
PILOT EPISODE!!!

In this pilot episode, our NGBP is on break, and the only band member in sight - thus falling squarely in the crosshairs of a fiendish inquisitor!!!

http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/7122151/ (Corrected to include trailing slash)

Enjoy, if possible!

Thanks, Beginner Bass... and MOses, I added a trailing slash to the link - does that help?

Hahaha, love all the ummms and the looking at the camera. Add in "Do you guys do Mustang Sally" and it was just like my last gig.

Thanks, guys... I should really dig up and re-link to the clip that inspired mine. I think, in that one, the bar patron really did request Mustang Sally - after the band had stopped for the night.

(Edit: No, it was Brown-Eyed Girl!)

OK, here it is: It has profanity that I tried to leave out of mine, but that only makes it more authentic! (And I love the way the text-to-speech mispronounces some of the words!)

What the heck... I made an Episode Two.

Didn't really need to be done, but, hey.

This one still has no overt profanity, but does have a number of dodgy "British" insults!

Thank you all. I think the robo-voices are what make it funny... either that, or the cutesy animals. But, I'm weird.

There are other 'themes' you can use at this site (http://www.xtranormal.com/) and it's probable that I'll soon have to switch from the animals to one of the other ones. Their choices are limited, and I am running out of animal 'actors' to play opposite the bass player dog.

My next one is going to be about a rude MALE patron, just so I can find and use a different male voice. I could make him bug me about sitting in (always good material), or shame me for playing a 4-string Fender, or protest in disbelief that our variety band doesn't play anything from the newest Slayer album.

The robo-voices make it even funnier. More than anything, it's the voices plus, of course, the dialog itself which makes this so funny. It's very hard for me to find anything funny. If I think it's funny, then the chances are it really is. Nevertheless, obviously people have different tastes. This dry humor is right on target as far as I'm concerned.

You could probably just transcribe TalkBass threads, and make 27 seasons of this stuff...

Thanks to all of you for watching these. Surprisingly, my non-musician Facebook friends have gotten a kick out of episodes 1 and 2, so I felt compelled to create:

EPISODE THREE

My Facebook and band friends keep asking for more "Trials Of A Nice Guy Bass Player." I can't complain - I've been having fun writing these!

Here's EPISODE FOUR:

Enjoy, if possible!

I wonder who the heck keeps watching these. 1,078 views, and I've only advertised this "series" to a handful of Facebook friends, and within several threads in the Bass Humor And Gig Stories forum, here on Talkbass.

I am forced to think that the employees of Xtranormal are paid to "watch" these on spare computers, so their page views go up.
