I think this belongs in the humor section just because of the ridiculous nature of what I just saw... if not mods please move it.
I'm sitting at my desk at home doing some work (and of course surfing TB). The desk is situated right next to the window in my room, which is at ground level. The UPS guy parks right in front of the house, but doesn't notice me. I just stay quiet and observe...
He locates three boxes from the back of the truck and THROWS them Brett Favre style into the middle of the road (by the way, Donald Driver, long time receiver for the Packers, insists that Favre has broken every one of his fingers during games, so he throws pretty hard). He checks his electronic 'clipboard' and proceeds to pick up one of the boxes. Two steps, and he chucks it again at my neighbor's door. He then picks up the remaining two, and again heaves them at my door. THUD THUD! I hope there was nothing fragile in those boxes.
I'm supposed to have a bass delivered in the next few days. If I see a repeat performance, I am going to go nuts. Now I've got to be vigilant to intercept this idiot before he does damage to my bass.
I've seen UPS guys be a little rough, but for the most part the guys on this route try at least a little to be careful. This buzz cut, 6'1'', 280 lbs moron looked happy only as he watched the flight of those boxes before they crashed against the concrete and surely damaged whatever was inside, unless they were pillows. |

If this guy delivers basses to your house, I'd surely tell him beforehand he better not screw things up. |

Just in disbelief at how nonchalant he was about breaking whatever he was trying to deliver. If he really wanted to be a demolition man or wrecking ball operator, then he should have applied for those jobs. |

Although I don't want to confront him before the actual event just so that he doesn't mess with the bass before he gets here, you know? I can see him kicking it around the truck all day before he gets to my street. I'll just rush outside the second I see him and say "Hey, let me help you with that, thanks a lot." A phone call to UPS I think would go further than getting into an argument with someone who appears to have the same IQ as the ambient temperature this time of year. |

Then we have to go through the huge ordeal of reporting it, following up the investigation, only to have the company say...eh, probably wasn't our fault, claim denied. There's big money in whoever opens a business for music gear ONLY transport, emphasizing the care they'll take of gear they ship. I know, it'd be a lot to expect, but there are companies out there that give a crap about their reputation and how they go about their business...right?....right? |

A phone call with some detailed truck info would set an investigation into place. If his superiors saw these actions, he would be out on his ear before he realized what happened.

Having worked in a UPS Store before I will warn you all that your packages have to be able to withstand a 6 FOOT drop. That was some sucky news to me when I heard because it meant packing a heck of a lot better when shipping.
Just a heads up for you all to remember to pack extra padding.

As Wyatt stated, not a good move toward long-term job security... | I believe it. I work for FedEx Express and I've seen my share of packages being mishandled despite the fact that we are preached to constantly about not doing so.
If you want to see how bad things can be, just search YouTube for UPS, FedEx, or any other company and see some of the video people have taken. It's shocking the things people do.

I hate bashing the US Post office or UPS. I always defend them.
I worked in a retail store for 34 yrs. My UPS drivers including the women were first rate.
If I had a shipment coming and saw what you saw.
I would have been on the phone so fast it would make your head swim.
Call his regional office tell them about his passing skills and get him repremanded, suspended or fired.
That way your package coming in a few days has a chance.
Don't wait by the window to catch him throwing your shipment.
Turn this guy in.
UPS over all is a quality act. They don't want that guy. Trust me.
Make the call............ You'll feel good.

How much packaging would an SVT head, which weighs 80 something pounds, require before it and it's package would survive a 6 foot drop? A LOT. Think about it. It's nearly impossible.

My UPS guy is excellent. Really a standup guy. But in my brother's area on the south side of Minneapolis they are brutally smashing things to pieces...unbelievable.
Really makes you wonder.

We all watched them have a 'who can throw the hardest' contest with our luggage. My bass was one of them, packed in a road case, but I still cringed when I saw the guy hurl it into the cargo hold then proceed to throw several large heavy bags on top of it. Myself and several other people bitched to the poor gate agent AND to the airline rep that had to come over after we really started to get irrate. We all ended up with free round trip tickets within the CONUS. My response was "Why the f@ck would I ever want to fly with you people again?" The rep's response was that the baggage handlers are employed by the airport, not the airlines. Basically, nothing was going to be done, ever. Now imagine how UPS/FedEx baggage handlers abuse your stuff knowing that no one is watching? Scary stuff.

I now specify when buying anything online that UPS are not to be used for shipping to me. If the seller intends to use UPS, then I won't make the purchase.
That said, many of the shipping companies are really bad in all sorts of ways.

| | | | I wouldnt mind being a UPS/FedEx whatever delivery guy. Just googled, starting wages are 40k a year, thats pretty decent for just driving around town and putting packages on ones doorstep. I don't know what is wrong with people who mishandle packages. Those people never learned to respect other people's property. Very sad. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
