yes it can, it may lack a bit of the "wood" tone but with digital modeling and everything they can easily make something sound like a bass guitar. the seinfield theme is a keyboard, now I may have some good enough experience to know what a bass sounds like but to me it still sounds like a funk line from a BASS.

Now nobody will be able to groove and do certain techniques which make bass BASS.

Still there were some pretty damn stupid comments there besides that techology crap

Groan. Well, I suppose there's a good reason the person is asking there and not here.

From the so called "best answer"

Quote:
These days there are actually pedals/modifiers that you can hook up to that will make your guitar sound like a base. They've gotten pretty good actually, so much so that if I started a band, I'd have a guitarist be the base player. The whole disadvantage of the base is the big strings are harder to play fast, and you don't have that with a guitar-base.
idiot

Metal is dead man you'll never make enough good hits to keep your band alive and too make a steady income. But if you wish bass is fairly similiar both the E and A strings represents bass and the D string represents the sneer drum. It's easier than ordinary bass but you will need leasons books and play to your favourite songs. But I would strongly disagree with metal we're not in the 90's no more man.
So nobody plays metal and bass has a string that sounds like a "sneer" drum???

ah...wow im special

yeah the way he kept spelling it base...was pretty annoying...and idiotic.....

some1 needs to be writing a book on the difference between a bass guitar, and an electric guitar....that hits all the points of how awesome the bass is....and maybe have a spelling lesson in there..apparently

the D string represents the sneer drum.

Sneer *snicker*

But yeah, I don't know if a *sneer* drum even has a note you could list it as. If you look on sheet music for percussion, there isn't a clef.

Edit: I mean, I'm sure it has a note. But as far as I know, there's only 4 clefs and they're Treble, Bass, Alto, and Tenor, and percussion isn't either of those.

"Yeah, with that experience you can use the note knowledge to read music. You could learn any other instrument easily.

I had to learn the hard way, im still learning, i play bass/drums/violin/keys by ear. I cant read music, but i work until it's pitch perfect. I take music and tab it so i can read it. I have alot of fun jamming with friends at church.

I picked up the bass because of its unique sound, i like it better than keys or guitar. Dunno, im not much of a leader, i like rythym because i am good with timing.

I'm in college and hoping to join a part time band sometime. i can play acoustic bass as well."

This one isn't that bad.

I love the first comment:

"There are many effects and processors nowadays that can make your guitar sound like a base..."

There is also technology nowadays to help when "Me grammer and speelling is un-good". It's called spell-check and a thesaurus, chump.
