I'm sure I'll get a lot of crap for asking this since I should know by now, but I have now clue what all this carrot stuff is all about. It's bugging me! Clue in a fellow bassist?

As far as I can tell this isn't so much a bass thing as a talkbass thing. People making polls are trying to show respect for the fact that polls are closed questions and there might be other unthought-of options. Including a "carrots" options is there to (playfully) capture all the other possibilites.

"Oh carrots are divine, you get a dozen for a dime, it's magic. They fry, a song begins; they roast and I hear violins, it's magic. Why do I kid myself? Other loves that I have are all really few. When in my heart I know, the magic's my love for you." -Bugs Bunny,Rabbit Every Monday,1951

Carrots is equal to adding "Don King", "Bacon", and "Go steelers" to a poll.

It's not a poll without carrots, plain and simple. There's a real explanation, of course, but it's much sillier, and better left to people Who Were There.

So that's why all my polls fail .

As for the explanation, that's abso-effing-lutely correct.
It probably won't make any sense for those who weren't there, and I have a hunch that it probably didn't make much sense for those not involved back then either .
IMHO only of course.

Regards
Sam

I've been there from the beginning and I remember when polls were first introduced and there was much complaining along the lines of where's the option for "xxxxxx"...?

I think that at the time, Jazzbo was famous as a vegetarian TBer and John Turner as moderator edited some polls to give Jazzbo a "vegetarian option".

Since then it has passed into TB folklore and has become a must-have for every poll!

But we are talking about 10 years ago now...

So my memory might be hazy...?
