Unusual wedding gig

So this Saturday I have an unusual (at least unusual for me) wedding gig. I won't be bringing my bass or playing any other sort of instrument. I will be performing the ceremony. I am probably the absolute last person I would choose to officiate at a wedding, but a couple friends of mine want me to do it, so here goes.

A year or so ago, I found a form at www.ulc.org for instant online ordination. I thought "Eh, why not." It has since enabled me to introduce myself as The Reverend Luke'alicious. It just trips off the tounge, doesn't it? It has even become my myspace handle. Never mind the fact that I am completely not a religous person. About the same time two friends of mine, Chris and Jamie, got engaged. They asked if I would perform their marriage ceremony. I said sure, naturally assuming that they were kidding. Flash forward a year. I get the wedding invite in the mail. There big as day on the invitation it says "Services provided by The Reverend Luke'alicious". Oops. Guess they were serious. So here I am renting a suit, registering with the state of Oklahoma (can you believe this ordination is actually legal?), and working up a non-religous ceremony with a smattering of German thrown in at the bride's behest. How do I get myself into this stuff...

I've already had three other couples ask if I would perform their weddings. What are these people thinking? Of course I'll do them, but still... Oh well. Guess if this music thing doesn't pan out, I've a fine career ahead of me as a preachin' man.

That's straight out of a Friends episode. Just don't get hung up at a gig and have to perform the wedding in KISS costume or something.
