Sign in to disble this ad
Seems like the venue where I organized a gig is cancelling all live shows from 11th June to 11th July and instead, broadcast the world cup. Yeah, it's better money, but this place is supposed to be one of the better local live music dining places locally. Been a big headache for me to replan and reorganize with this last min change.
Any of you guys having similar experiences? |

Found out that he was running to the bar to watch the world cup. I was in 6 different cities in 10 days and every bar that I saw was packed. World cup brings in lots of money. The total prize money this year is $420 million !!!!!

Random applause was a bit distracting... |

I was working a summer season in 1986 (Pontins - Brean Sands) and they showed the England v. Argentina game on a huge projection screen in the Nightclub before we went on. This was only 4 years after the Falklands War and so there was an "atmosphere" in the room (which was full and you could park a 747 in it!!).
After Argentina won (with Maradona's hand of God Goal). Not too may people were interested in us playing a few numbers ....

Nice show, but people don`t care too much.
In many countries, the activity literally stops during those 2 hours when their team play at the WC (and I mean, factories, schools, offices, people walking in the street, etc.). It`s something hard to describe.

| | | | It happens around here if the Pittsburgh Steelers are playing football (even pre-season games). People act like the band playing is interrupting them watching the TV screen. It also happens with Pittsburgh Penguins hockey games and Pitt and Penn State football games as well. There is a sports bar we have played that does not want to book bands during certain regional team games, football and hockey playoff games, or March Madness college basketball; so, that does not leave many dates to have bands. |

It only occurs once every four years and is the culmination of years of a squad's hard work. Of course fans are just gonna focus on that over a random gig. On a side note, let go Germany! |

First we had Bucky Bleeping Dent, then Aaron Bleeping Boone, then, most surprising of all, is David Bleeping Tyree, |

He supposedly lost a lot of money for colombian organized crime. Supposedly for every shot put into him the shooter yelled goal a la Latin American commentators. I scoff at people who claim they're "die hard" here knowing the passion futbol fans hold for their teams.

I`ve seen fights in NHL, NBA (inside the court) Euro basket, fights at Australian Open, etc. It doesn`t make soccer less civilized,.
Saying that soccer fans are mental for one player being murdered 15 years ago by Colombian gangsters makes no sense to me.

I can imagine it would be a large distraction.

I mean "mental" like "very passionate" not "mental there is something seriously wrong with your intelligence for liking the sport." It's a colloquialism here in New England. Like "wicked" here means "great" (for some reason) and not "evil."
Although, wicked can also mean evil. It's very confusing. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
