The van got stolen friday night!

We played a little club on the OSU campus the night before the OSU /Michigan game.
The club was packed and all went very well.
We tore down at the end of the night and pull our van up to the front door.
We get all of the equipment out to the sidewalk and were talking amoungst ourselves before we load up.
The vans sitting there with the rear and side doors all open.
At this point someone gets in the van and starts it up.
We figure it's Bob our drummer.
Some other fellow jumps in the open rear doors and the van takes off very quickly. As the vans speeds off you can see that second person lying in the back ,stoned out of his mind.
We all still standing on the sidewalk with the dumbest looks on our faces.
Somebody just stole our van right in front of our faces.
We're in shock.Thank God we hadn't loaded any gear yet.
We see the van turn to the right at the next block.
We call the Police and then I get in my car to see if I can find it.
I searched all the side streeets and alleys in the area.I figured if that guy in the back of the van was plastered ,so was the driver .I was hopeing they we're looking for a ride home.
As luck would have it I found it about 20 minutes later in a school parking lot .
I called back to the guys and told them where I found it .
The police brought them along to pick it up .
There was no damage at all. They even left the keys in it.
We just went back to the bar and loaded up.

which is why you shouldn't leave the keys in your van and the doors open.

Wow! And I was expecting to read your van, gear and the your good drummer got stolen (some people will do anything for a good drummer nowadays you know!)

That was certainly a well delivered life lesson good to hear that outcome for a change...

Maybe I should add that we(4 of us) were standing 3 to 4 feet from the side door of the van when this happened.
Felt like we were standing there with our pants around our ankles.

I re-read what I posted and I sort of came off a little too parental.

Just realize that stuff like this DOES happen, people get vans stolen, or in the case of my friend's band, BURNED DOWN. This happens in strange cities where you know no one and you usually end up having to cancel the rest of the tour.

Be careful.
