Want to hear something REALLY obnoxious???

Ever have a project that was SO INCREDIBLE? Where every musician was the rippingest shredder EVER to wield their respective axe? Where the talent flowed like the mighty torrent of a great and noble river with such velocity...THAT YOU DIDN'T EVEN NEED TO REHEARSE???

Ever wonder why your INCREDIBLE PROJECT only made $200 at the local folk-rockish organic cafe? Ever find a video years later and go, "Ohhhhh....THAT's why we were broke!"?

Well, friends, I have. And so, for the anecdotal amusement it might provide y'all, I present...The Junta, live in Anchorage.

Am I not the only one? Have a similar tale? Feel free to share! This could be fun!

Ha! Great video! What a hot mess! I'm sure I have such a train wreck video somewhere around here.............but it's on VHS (that means I'm old) I have popped them into the old VCR before and just laughed at myself. I even had one of my old band mates from a couple decades ago staying here one weekend. We went up into my bonus room and got hammered and laughed at ourselves in many such videos. And back then we thought we were the S.....uh.....STUFF!

Absolutely incredible musicianship! That is, without question, the most impressive (and deeply complex) cover of Stairway to Heaven I have ever heard! Hopefully they will be touring soon (even though tickets will be expensive).

OMG. That went on from 8:00 - 1:30?

Were there any customers after 8:30?

Was this the result of some type of lab experiment on the effects of musicians by having them live in Alaska for six months?

I always wondered what psychological effects would occur with that whole thing about the sun not rising during winter months or setting during the summer.

So this is it.

Wow.

I'm staying here.

Wow.

That has to be the absolute worst bass "tone" I've ever heard in my life. And it's NOT the fault of the recording...

Just absolutely no "sound"...

No mids, no balls, no power, no warmth, no thickness, no definition, no distinction, no identity, no sustain, no ANYTHING...

I lol'd at those little fluttery blippity blippity noises though...Wooten would be traumatized.

I'm telling you. Playing stuff that's recognizable is so old-school. Fortunately we have trailblazers showing that it doesn't have to all be the same, you know, recognizable AS music.

Yes, the tone...I attribute it to a bad case of MTD Kingston exposed-pole pickup. Not to worry! I replaced it with the Bartolini, and...my Peavey Foundation sounds great. My current project drinks waaaaaaay more than most, though, so naturally we sound super-awesome regardless. You should come see us! I'll get ya a few tall ones.

Of course Stairway has to go there!!!!!! Actually, I believe everybody in that band had been there at least five years. Yes, Alaska makes you crazy. Yes, it's AWESOME!!! It's dark out all the time? Time to party! It's light out all the time? Time to party! And maybe ski or catch huge salmon somewhere in there too...

Yes, actually, the place was jumpin' at the end! I mean, eight band members, with all their attendant girlfriends, daughters, buddies...Also, you must understand...Alaska's scene is a little bit starved. You can literally own a harmonica and make $100/night. Seriously...I've seen it.

Glad y'all enjoyed! Peace, folks...and again, feel free to share such stories! I have a feeling there may be one and a half or so still out there...

Biiiiiiiig +1

We've all heard what the 60's sounded like, and the 70's, and the 80's, etc etc etc. These guys are on the bleeding edge of what will become known as the sound of "the teens." It's beyond our comprehension at the moment, and we will only begin to understand this level of depth of music as we go through the 21st century teen years.

You know what is abnoxious too?

Sometimes I got the feeling, that most people here on TB would not play a gig in a club like this without at least 1000W rig :P

Great story, lesson learned, time to move on, play more and have fun!

Another great lesson to take away is that overplaying never ever ever sounds good. Ever. Even in Alaska. Well - overplaying even with some modicum of actual talent? No... still never sounds good

To be fair, an actual groove does emerge if you can hold on to your cookies long enough to hear the last minute or so of the vid.

The whole thing was terrible. Nobody wants to listen to anyone attempting to shred all night. There was absolutely no feel or musicianship. I can't believe anyone booked them.

I live in Philly now, but next time I'm back at the rents place in Pittsburgh, I'll find a few VHS's that may do your challenge justice. Gotta get them converted to a digital format tho. I'll keep you posted dickfitts!
