We were supposed to bring instruments??

Sign in to disble this ad
We played a show on Saturday and were supposed to go on at 10:30. We went on around midnight. Why you ask? Because...wait for it...wait for it...

The first band forgot their guitars!!! I couldn't even laugh when I heard it because it was just so sad. The owner of the venue said they had to wait for 2 of the guys to drive home and retrieve their instruments...

One bassist I met at a show bragged about bringing a new Rickenbacker fireglo...It was a schecter bass.

I have no problem with Schecter, but the dude was so proud of his "Ric"

I should do this with my DB sometime...

I could just show up with the bag and then exclaim that I couldn't figure out why the bag was so light and bendy.

Wow. I have to admit, that's pretty good. I don't know what model he had, but my schecter looks absolutely nothing like a Rick. Not even close. Other than of course it has a bridge, is made out of wood, and sounds bad when I play it.

The organizer should have cancelled that band's performance. I'm assuming your band probably has enough material to cover 2 sets, if needed.

What I don't understand is why you had to wait to go on - let them go get their stuff, but why wait for them?

One of my friends grabbed the wrong gig bag and showed up at a gig with his guitar instead of his bass. D'OH! He called me in a panic and I drove in rush hour traffic for an hour to bring him one.

One time we were playing a house show with some bands we hadn't played with before but also with a band we are all friends with and have played with before. They load in their stuff and the one guitarist realizes he forgot his pedal board, so my two guitarists graciously allow him to pick and choose between the two of their pedal boards to use for the show.

They are a few minutes away from starting and he realizes he also FORGOT HIS GUITAR! He forgot his pedal board and his guitar lol. So then he had to borrow a guitar from us as well. Needless to say we still don't forget to remind him about it.

Really? Me too!!

OK I must share because this seems relevant.

I went to practice 3 weeks ago without my BASS!!!!!

The funny thing was I had it loaded after church that morning and it was a sweltering 108 degrees that particular Sunday.

So needless to say I took my bass out of the truck and an hour out from practice I started loading up my rig along with a cooler of water, and the rest of my stuff and come time to leave I hopped in the truck and drove off to practice!

It was so stinkin' hot outside I literally forgot my bass!!

luckily it all worked out my bass made it there with a fellow member who was late and all was forgiven...

But geez! my bass! Crap!

The funny thing was I loaded all the stuff in and I couldn't find my bass... well durh....

My wife said it was leaned against the wall close to the fridge, guess I was more concerned about getting the water than I was my bass!

Or simpler yet, they could have let your band go on first which would have given the other guys time to go get their instruments.

I actually forgot to bring my amp to a wedding reception gig a few years back. We hadn't played in a few months, I was running late, grabbed my gear, and jumped in the car. We all set up the PA and when I finally get around to setting up my rig, I notice I've got a 4x10 cab (packed in the band trailer) but nothing to drive it with. Luckily, our guitarist lives only ~5 miles away. He ran home and got his extra Fender Twin Reverb- he had split the combo into a cabinet and head many years earlier. It actually sounded pretty good and did a decent job of driving the 4x10.

Sometimes it's a sneaky trick a band will use in order to go on last. If the promoter makes you go on earlier, your band then becomes downgraded to the opening or a supporting band.

I have every respect for opening acts, but if your band's paid its dues and gained enough popularity that you should not open the show, then it's not really fair to lose your position due to intentional or unintentional negligence.

I understand these things (forgetting instruments) happen from time to time. That said, I'll probably be the next person to type a similar story as the OP, except with me as the offender. lol

As far as I could tell they didn't have anyone show up to see them play, which is probably why the venue just delayed the start of the show. It actually turned out to be a good thing as we had more people in attendence for our set. Still unbelievable though. I can understand forgetting a piece of equipment or two (bass/guitar included), but 2 members of the same band forgetting their instruments? Wow...

Interesting...I've never heard of that happening before, but I'm a newb to the scene so I'll keep that in mind. It would be a good (albeit shady) way of getting out of playing the opening slot. Then again it might just backfire and cause them to cancel that bands set altogether.
