i could hear the bass very clear, unfortunate at times. haha. i think it was just a problem of the bassist not knowing what the heck he was playing, but then again, ive been in that situation too

You know if you really think about it ...yea he was lost in it but pulled it off decent enough that i bet nobody in that room noticed a thing at all. Now if he added a slap line in there everybody would of turned their heads

Nicely done. I think the bassist was either bored, tired, or lost. Either way, he pulled it off fine and I'm sure everyone listening thought the music sounded fine.

Hi.

Appropriate title: What a Wondweful World

Sounds to me that the bassplayer tries to play a bit more than required to that standard, and despite "being in the mood" so to speak, loses the line at times.

Not bad though, I've played much worse and for more people.

Regards
Sam

Yep -- I've been in exactly the same situation at "Open Mics" where an impromptu pickup band suddenly starts to play a tune where my knowledge of the chord changes is shall we say "nebulous".

I think anyone who has an accordion player in their band deserves to be made fun of. If anyone reading this is in a band with an accordion player, go ahead an write one "IOU" from me for a "Ha Ha" ala Nelson from the Simpsons.

That sounded really dirgey and depressing, like they were trying to be ironic. Like if you sang that song while killing a cat and making a hat out of it's intestines or something.

Since I started this thread, guess I need to clarify my thoughts ....

I agree with many of the posts here, we have all been "lost" in a tune at some point. But two things about this clip confuse the heck out of me ....

First, it appears that there is a music stand with the chart on it. I say that because the accordian cat is reading the chart while they're playing. Of course, maybe the bass player can't read? That's possible .....

Second (and in my mind most importantly), why in the world would you put this clip on YouTube? The bass player is the one who posted this mess .... if you don't know the tune, if you don't actually even hit just ONE correct note in the bridge, why would you post the clip?

Bass players are a strange bunch ....

No, no, no... You guys are all missing the point here... The cat is a obviously a serious jazz musician (unfortunately the other two are not) He's very clearly playing a sophisticated augmented bass line and appeared annoyed that the other musicians weren't playing along with what seemed to me, a very intense, intricate bass riff...

This is why an ocassional rehearsal never sucks.

(I thinks I've jammed with these dudes...)

Even if he didn't, it looked like anyway that he had a chart in front of him. Cripes!

I made it all the way to 00:44 before I nearly screamed and shut it off.
