Wearing a mask on stage?

Sign in to disble this ad
So digging around the drummers basement I found an Obama mask. It's thoroughly creepy and will be part of my Halloween getup.

We have a show on the 29th and were thinking about dressing up in halloween gear for it. I really wanna wear the mask but I'm wondering how long it'll take for me to be sweating uncontrollably. I already widened the breathing and eye holes to make stuff easier.

Any thoughts? Past experiences? Stories? Is this a terrible idea that will probably get me injured? Haha.

If you're as poor a bass player as me, I would suggest you wear the mask. There were many times I wished I was wearing one!

You already modded the mask? lets see some pix.

The mods I did already were suddle, so there's no visual difference.

And my phone is being stupid, so no pics at the moment. I'll get around to it tomorrow at school!

It isn't very fun but, I like it. The mask I got is a lucha libre mask though.
It has laces in the back so I need a kind hand to tie me into it.

Oddly enough I practice with it not gig. Though once my friend needed to borrow said mask for a party themed gig. He told me that it was easy for him because while uncomfortable he had lots of time in between sets to take it off and breathe.

I'd say it depends on the mask. And your ability to play without being able to see your bass much. Other than that I love it when people wear masks for shows.
Gotta love Les Claypools many masks, the monkey, elvis, pig, that long nosed one, what am I missing?
I'm actually looking for the right mask for me to wear occationally.

No Slipknot's various members stated (Except Craig the sampler/guy with spikes on his head who never talks) it was tight, uncomfortable and at times unbearable. Slipknot always got their masks made for them personally (all the ones except the debut album era) I take that back Corey's mask was a custom I think but, the rest were heavily modified Halloween masks except for Clown's.

Anyways since they were custom made Slipknot were able to let their personalities shine through. For example Paul's early mask (debut album) was a Pig because he loved the excess of being a rockstar. All of Corey's prior masks somewhat resembled Leatherface due to his love of horror movies.

BTW I'm an official Outside The 9 Slipknot fan club member

Cool story thanks. I like the fact they 'suffer' for the art so to speak, makes what they do a little bit more real in some respects. RIP Paul.

Closest (and most fun gig) I've come to wearing a mask was when the band played Fremantle Prison so we (muso's) dressed as prisoners, under the guard of our female singer come police officer, who was not shy with the baton at all!

Just do a "dress rehearsal" with the mask on, that should give you a good idea how long you can deal with it on a gig.

I know a band that made some big heavy spiked armbands (this was mid-90s black metal) and wore them to a gig without ever practicing with them on. Their arms were dead tired by the third song. So, if you're gonna do something like this (whether we're talking mask, armbands, tweed suit or whatever) it's a very good idea to practice first.

I saw Les from about 5 feet behind his drummer & after every tune he would lift the mask up & pour out about a cup full of sweat. it did not look fun at all

We all wore these alien-looking masks one year for Halloween, and that night, I earned major respect for Slipknot.

HOT. HOT. HOT.

Hard to see, hard to breathe, and sweat.

Did I mention the sweat?!
