Weird bass dream, wonder what this means...

Had an odd bass dream last night, figured I'd share. Feel free to interpret.

My band was playing a gig at a kinda outdoor venue. The stage was setup under a cover and I was back to the right of the drummer. We setup and launch into the first song, only the guitarist starts a song that we don't know, so the singer just starts making up lyrics, and I start fumbling through the song as best I could.

As I'm playing, someone to the right of me starts heckling. "Hey, I'm a bassist and while you're playing good notes, you're playing sucks." I try to defend myself, "the f*&#ing guitarist isn't playing the right thing!" but he keeps on heckling, and it really starts pissing me off.

At the end of the song I step off the stage and he keeps pestering me, so I take my bass, and proceed to pulverize his face with it. Sent him to the ground, and just beat the bejesus out of his face with my bass. After I was sure he was either unconcious or dead and stopped pounding on him, another bassist walked up to me, thanked me for beating the hell out of that guy, then high fived me with his bass (acted like we were gonna smack our basses together really hard, then stopped and did a gentle tap).

After that, I cleaned off the bass, checked it for any cracks or bad dings, strapped on and went back on the stage. Woke up right when the drummer did the "1, 2, 3, 4".

P.S. I'm not a violent person... really.

You long for acceptance and approval and have a repressed resentment of guitarists?

Actually yes, I'm guessing it is from anxiety as I have a big gig next weekend and have been having problems with certain members of the band (who play an unnamed instrument) keeping their priorities straight and missing practice/not being ready. We haven't had a full practice in about a month, we've always been short at least one member.

That sounds just like one of my band's normal gigs.

My guess is that you're frustrated over not being able to get the whole band together to rehearse before a big gig. You, as a lot of bassists, see the continuity of what the band is playing as more important then individual virtuosity. My guess is that the offending band member has given you a hard time about your playing, most likely your groove, and that your other band mates may be getting frustrated with this offending member too.

my 2¢

Anyone ever notice that instruments and personality types tend to go hand in hand...nuff said.

Also that kinda stuff happens in dreams all the time... I think thats a base fear that others will fail to accomplish their task and it will cost you...all the way back to the days when if Unk didn't push the bolder hard enough when the mammoth walked by your whole family died of starvation and exposure. It also ties in with fear of the unknown and lack of control...Beating a guy to death is taking control of the situation back...albeit maybe with a little too much zeal.

That and its a dream...I made out with my roomates GF the other day in a dream...doesn't mean it will happen in real life...although I don't think I would mind
