Today I played with my band at an "American Day" (so with Harley Davidsons, Trikes, muscle cars etcetera), but at the moment we arrived, 2 hours before the gig, the first bikes and cars were already leaving.
There was no soundcheck, at least not the kind I'm used to. The sound engineer said: "Just play something..." to the complete band. So we just played one song, and after that the sound was still horrible. When I signed ánd said I wanted less keys, more guitar and more backing vocals (which happens to be me) on my monitor, he just raised his shoulders. I couldn't really make out whether he didn't understand, didn't know or just simply didn't want to do it. The monitoring ánd the FOH sound was horrible the complete gig, which might have explained the fact people were standing 20 feet from the stage. We played quite well, so that's not it...
The weirdest thing was the atmosphere in the audience. It wasn't fun, it wasn't lame, it wasn't anything, really. There was no atmosphere, everything just, well, was. There was free beer.
On the way home we drove about 70 mph when we were overtaken by a bus, which are only allowed 50 mph. Weird.
