Late next month, my band will be performing at the Gathering of the Vibes festival in Bridgeport, CT. This festival is something of a Grateful Dead party, and while none of us are big Dead-heads, its a good exposure gig. Anyway, we're playing on a side stage on Saturday afternoon of the festival. On checking out the festival website, we were struck by the eclectic main-stage headlining acts (in order from earliest to latest):
moe.
Elvis Costello & the Impostors
Jane's Addiction
Aside from all 3 of these bands being bands I enjoy and am interested to see, they've not really got much in common. This got me wondering if any of you TB'ers have any interested mismatched lineup stories. Any metal bands opening for country acts? Reggae sets in the middle of an electronic festival??? Let's hear em! Thanks! |

The guys after us were surf/ acoustic. Im friends with the heavy rock band but the acoustic guys sucked it up.. That booking agent isnt getting too much business nowadays..

Vibes is your standard music festival with tons of hippies walking around, and tons of people doing drugs. Think of it almost as a mini Woodstock or Lemon Wheel. People don't generally care what the music being played actually is, as long as it's good! It's a fun time for sure, and a really good gig. Congrats!
I didn't know Janes Addiction was playing. i might have to make the trip up to CT to check em' out.

In a show we're doing next week, which is a company picnic for my place of work, my band (a hard rock band) is following a mariachi band, and they are following a jazz band, and the jazz band is following a Highland bagpipe band.

The middle band was the Mark-Almond Band, a nearly-acoustic jazzy blues band.
My brother saw J. Geils open for Yes (most people left when Yes came on), I saw them open for Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. |

| | | | Around '84 I went to a college party at some frat house in South Jersey. The line-up was Beru Revue (local party band with some success in the Philly area), followed by a new group no one had heard of called Run DMC, followed by The Hooters(80's new wave type).

A rap act followed by some punk band, followed by an alt rock band, then another rap act, so on and so forth for 20+ groups. Was definitely an interesting crowd to say the least. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
