What's the strangest true reason you've ever quit a band, or anyone ever gave for quitting your band? I quit one because it was playing too many government-subsidized gigs for various cultural festivals etc. Just did one Sunday, playing the last one Wednesday... usually they pay well but require a lot of travel and draw small crowds. If it wasn't for those I'd be happy with this band, but... well, our rulers (both national and European Union) attempts to support the arts and culture have made it not worth it. I'd rather stick to playing commercial covers they don't find worthy of support, haha.
So, that's pretty uncommon, but I'm sure a lot of y'all have much weirder stories.

Anyway, when I was a teenager I was going to be the lead singer of this band we put together to play at highschool dances and proms. One of the songs the guys wanted to do had the word "damn" in the lyrics. I didn't want to sing it because I was afraid that singing the word "damn" would make the folks at my church mad at me...so I quit the band.
Maybe not really "weird" but I certainly dumb.

I'd rather get the same money for playing something more commercial in front of 200 people a few miles from my house instead.

| | | | I quit my last band because they, esp the guitarist, were republican wingnuts. It would be ok but he never stopped talking about it. He even endorsed republican candidates between songs at gigs. Didn't work for me. |

Maybe not really "weird" but I certainly dumb. | We had a lead singer quit because we insisted on playing "Hey Joe". He wouldn't sing it because the song is about shooting a woman. That's OK, we had someone else sing it. He still quit because he didn't want to be associated with a band that would perform "that type" of music.
What can I say? We're a blues band... |

Anyway, yeah I can see your point. I wouldn't be cool with the political campaigning thing at gigs either.

Its just not worth the time commitment for a metal band that sucks and is not going anywhere.

What can I say? We're a blues band... | He wouldn't last in Bluegrass. There are too many songs about guys killing their girlfriends....... Pretty Polly, Knoxville Girl, etc., etc. |

How bad*** is that! "I quit my band because my fans disgusted me."

We disbanded one time because the IRS was taking everybody's houses & cars. Another time long ago in Hawaii I got hired by a band to play guitar & sing back up. They already had a bassist & lead singer, but I needed a job so I took it. Somewhere along the line they decided I should sing lead on a few songs(I was a much stronger singer than the lead guy). That was the kiss of death. when I would sing my three or four songs everybody would dance. When he started singing again everybody sat down or left. They told me one day they were breaking up & reformed the next. I got another gig with my own band. |

I might add that the drummer had to use a metronome to be able to play.

At practices, I (being the only sober one) would say things like "are we going to practice today" while they're partying in the practice space and getting hammered. They asked me one Wednesday afternoon to come get my stuff because the other three guys mutually decided I wasn't a "good fit"...in hindsight, I guess I really wasn't.
