Well... My rig fell over at my gig tonight.

Little rant, forgive me.

...Yeah. It's never done this before, I've never had a single problem with it, but I made the mistake of letting another bassist use it in the set before mine... I don't know if that actually has anything to do with it, but I know my rack wasn't sliding when he was playing on it, then suddenly it was when I was playing on it.

The set started out great, we were jamming along, then... Nothing. There was no bass on the stage or out in the house. I did the professional thing, kept singing and kept playing until the song was done, then I looked around to find my rack had humpty dumptied itself right onto the stage. The input on my speakon cable had snapped right off and took the bridge input on my power amp with it, and the right three knobs on my preamp (including the master volume) were bent all to hell destroying most of their functionality. To top it off, the power conditioner took some damage, and there's a little snapcracklepop in either the pre, the power amp, or both. I got it back on the cab and managed to jimmy rig it so I could limp through the rest of the set, but it tried to wiggle its way off twice more before I finally put it on the ground and prayed the rock gods wouldn't find some way to knock it over down there.

Needless to say, after the set and a rather long string of profanity yelled in the parking lot (out of earshot of venue employees and patrons of course) I lined up as many Jager Bombs as the cash in my wallet would allow and promptly got smashed.

F my life.

[/rant]

So. How were y'alls evenings?

I feel your pain. When I was younger I had a Peavey Session Bass head that managed to make it's way off the top of my Eden D410 T and Peavey 115 stack right onto it's face. Destroyed the amp in a similar fashion to what you described. Sucked a lot, but then I got the chance to move into pre and power set ups so it was nice to try that for awhile.

All in all, not fun at all.

If there was a beer emote in the smilies, I'd definitely put one here.

So, I had this gig and the singer thought he would be a nice guy and set my stuff up for me because the drummer and I were stuck in traffic and running a little late.

Got to the gig took my like, three week old Sadowsky out of the case and put it on the stand...ol' golden throat forgot to tighten the nut on the stand, the fork twisted and the brand new Sadowsky went face down onto a very rough broom finish slab of concrete.
The sound it made was just sickening.

Believe me bro, I feel your pain.

In case your wondering, the hand of God was present in Charlotte NC that day because I picked that thing up and looked at it and there was absolutely not one single infinitesimal speck of damage.

About 10 years ago I was playing in Glasgow and was using my 1956 P-Bass (original!!). It was on it's stand while the support act were playing.

After finishing their set, their bassist (who was half drunk) stumbled back towards my rig and knocked my P-Bass out of it's stand onto the edge of one of the stage monitors. He then just drunkenly grinned at me and said "sorry mate" and then wandered off before I could get my hands on him.

On first inspection the bass seemed okay. However, when I got home the neck had obviously hit the edge of the monitor, causing one of the strings to bash into the fingerboard leaving a dent in the playing surface and the string needing replaced. I never saw that band again - probably just as well as I am still seething whenever I recall that sickening feeling I felt watching my beloved instrument falling over - aaagh!!!

Ouch! My condolences on the amp!
I've been a little scared of this happening to my amp one of these days TBH.

Thanks for the offer. This is why TB is awesome.

But I think I'll be able to get through my next couple gigs on some spare gear I have lying around. If things don't work out though, I may send a message your way.

You know, the possibility of this never really crossed my mind until last night. There's big rubber feet on the rack, the top of the cab is carpeted, things should stick. Now, however... I'm putting serious consideration into just putting the rack on the stage from now on.

With the benefit of hindsight can i suggest a ratchet strap? trucks use them to hold cargo still, but they work equally well in smaller situations and smaller versions.

I don't mean to sound high and mighty about it, but it's definitely worth it, given the pain and anguish you've been through!

Hi.

Sorry to hear about Your amp, hopefully it's an easier repair than it looks/sounds.

Not that it helps You one dang bit, but for ages I've secured my rig with 1.5" or 2" ratchet straps, from side handle to side handle, through all the handles in between. I do know that a tube amp won't withstand the fall even if strapped to two cabs, but it makes me feel secure.

Regards
Sam

I had a head that walked

off the top of the cabinet onto the floor, during the second set. nomosound. But the roadie outfitted my cabs and head with velcro- no more walking, and the whole rig stays stuck together- just gotta peel it apart...
