Well, that's a first - gig canceled due to tsunami

Had a gig scheduled tonight with my funk band, playing at a nice club down at the Santa Cruz harbor.

Just got word that it's cancelled - although the tsunami was a pretty minor event here, it did manage to hit the harbor hard enough to cause damage, and shut things down for a while.

So that's a first.. canceled due to tsunami.

Some clubs will do anything to get out of paying the band I guess

Hopefully you'll get to do a make-up gig there when things get back to normal.

is the club closing its doors tonight, or just canceling the band?

I'm sure this would be a case where "Act of God" clause is invoked... assuming there was a contract in place at all.

But yeah, this is one of those deals where a deposit in-hand sure would be nice to have.

Dude, that's a bummer. We don't get much of that in Colorado. The occassional massive snow storm, but not many big waves hitting our "shores."

Yeah, Crow's Nest. Seems like a lot of oceanfront business are shut down at the moment. Conflicting reports (depends on perspective I guess) of "what's the big deal, not much damage" and "whoa dude!".

It's all fun and games until someone loses a boat!

Well, as long as they're legitimately closed.

OTOH, if they decided to keep the place open for the weekend and just not have a band, that would be lame.

Hey Kesslari, I'm probably on the next ridge from you in Aptos! Drag about your Crow's Nest gig. I just read that a bunch of boats around 11:30 were actually smashed and one of the big docks seriously damaged, so apparently the need for them to cancel is for real I was skeptical about all the hoopla until then.....

Next to canceling due to alien invasion, I'd say that's gotta be one of the rarest excuses.

In my homestate of good ol' Pennsylvania, my cousin's band had been canceled by a bar because it was the first day of hunting season and no one was gonna show up. Needless to say, they were pissed. Another weird canceling reason.

Just be glad that you're not playing, should another tsunami hit. The aftershocks have been powerful enough to cause one.

The owner was interviewed on the news this morning, bemoaning the lost income from being closed on a Friday night.

Video of the wave hitting the Santa Cruz harbor - amazing thing is that the wave wasn't big at all (by the time it reached CA) but still, the volume and velocity of the water was very destructive.

Slash tweeted tonight that he's playing Osaka tonight (3/13/11) but that his gigs in Tokyo and Yokahama have been cancelled, so you are in good company. XD
