What the ****?

I'm quite impressed at my ability to attract bad luck.

Tomorrow, early in the morning, I've got some recording sessions, so, I decided to go get a new fresh set of strings, and realized that it was VERY late.

Fortunately, I was in a part of town where there are like 3 or 4 local music shops, so I rushed to the nearer one, and saw it was almost closed, so I sneaked under the sliding door, and knocked at the shop door.

-"We're closed... what do you want?"
-"I'm in serious need of a set of bass strings"
-"No prob, come in"

So I enter, and asked for the lightest set of strings they had.
They gave me d'Addario Prosteels (.040/.095), so I paid him 25 euros (quite cheap) and left.

Considering that I always buy the el-cheapo Warwick strings (10 euros/set and last forever), it was like an effort to spend those extra 15 euros in a set of strings, but the rush in which I was and the recording session where worth them.

I arrived at home, and took my thunderbird to change the nylon-taped strings it had, for those fresh d'addario's...

You can't figure the idiotic face I had at the moment I saw that the pack I bought should have been (if guitardist are right with their theories) for someone even more retarded than a bassist... because it only had 3 strings on it!!!

So, now I've got a bass with 3 strings completely new, and one rusted and dented (I strung it with an spare steel string I had around).

Tomorrow I'll get on a rush (as always) to the rehearsal place and take one of the new spare warwicks, as it will be too soon and the shop will be closed.

Terrible, but funny. Have you had similar experiences?

A few months back I went into Guitar Center to get some strings, DR Hi-Beam 4 string. Well I paid for em and left, when I got home I realized that the guy had sold me a 5 string set for the price of a 4 string set. I wasn't complaining but found it kinda funny.

Wow. What are the odds of getting only 3 strings? I think there's a lesson in all this....

Don't leave things to the last minute!

i find that since i almost never replace an entire set of strings at a time, i have a whole lot of strings lying around. my strat's strung up with 3 of its original strings (3 or 4 years old), 2 ernie ball slinkies, and 1 electric acoustic string. i like the tones it's got. and my jazz and OLP have 4 strings from 2 sets (half reg slinkies and half super slinkies) and people are always bugging me about that. plus, there's a shop 5 minutes away from here which sells generic individual strings instead of only packs.

i sure hope it doesn't mean i'm tone deaf. i can't tell the difference between say, d'addario and ghs strings on a guitar to save my life. to me, guitars just sound so thin that they usually don't have tone (IMO of course). my guitarist hates that i never change my strings.

I change strings like once a year.

I hate the bright sound new strings have, it hurts my ears. <3 fat round rusted bass strings.

I have a poopy old P-bass copy which is nearly unplayable because the fretwork is so poor. It was my first bass and it still has the original strings from when I got it about six years ago.
