And don't say "DB", I know it's the best and I already have one of those.

My girlfriend upon seeing my well worn 72 P Bass thought it was an old piece of garbage. Funny my 6 year old niece thought the same thing. My thoughts: outsiders like shiny objects. |

Or call up Jens Ritter; then everyone will think (and know) you have lots of money!

Always go with shiny. Just get a shiny one and play lots of notes really fast. |

Or how about a bass or guitar shaped like a shoe? That would probably do it...

The black-and-chrome approach always works well. For example, take the Argus 630 that my wife totally approves of (over the surf blue sparkle):
Note that black/chrome works best when the finish is shiny. (Pro tip: polish your bass before taking photographs.) Tortoiseshell pickguard looks great on clean, new guitars, but it makes beat-up ones look more beat-down, so I'd probably switch it out if I started to wear through the finish. Sparkle is better for larger stages, a more creamy finish for smaller and photo-ops. White or silver is always your best color for sparkles as it picks up the color of the stage lights.
Rust, anywhere, is instant fail.
Yes, I've been debating whether the P90s need chrome covers. In this case, I probably *would* opt for something like a black sparkle pickguard to optimize the black/chrome ratio. However, a white sparkle pickguard with the black pickups offers better overall stage bling, so it's a difficult call.
No, I haven't thought about this at all.
[edit] Also, if you *must* switch to guitar, get a VI and don't.

She's not going to know the difference, unless she plays.
If you want a woman to think you have money, a bass is not the way to go. Just make sure yours looks "well taken care of", as thats what people with money do, take care of things. Youre much more likely to make it look like you have money by driving an expensive car.
Women who dont play dont know the value of gear, so you need to have some things that they do know the value of, like expensive clothing, cell phone, shoes, and generally throwing money around like its going out of style.
