that they feel they need to be playing when you're trying to talk to someone else in the band about something? It's like guitar center in your own house, except instead of not being able to hear yourself play, its not being able to hear yourself talk.

| | | I invited some people to my house one time t jam and every time I tried to talk, one of the guitarists started playing. So I then threatened to punch the next person in the twins if they decided to play. Well someone didn't take my seriously and fell to the ground after a well placed punch. My uncle fell out of his chair laughing. So did everyone else.
Just try that next time.

Me and the singer were talking about a song we just played and the guitarist knew we were talking but continued to play so we started having conversations through the mics...it's not going to last long before my a-hole temperament comes through and i'm gonna tell him to quit f-ing playing we're trying to talk.

I have cured this by turning up and letting er rip while guitard is trying to tune his instrument, or noodling. He finally loses it and goes on a tirade, then point out calmly " see how it feels".
MORE POWER... it's a wonderful thing.

I had a band mate that always started talking as soon as I started my solo, on gigs, too, even when I asked him not to. It was almost like a cue for him to yak. So I got PO'd one day at practice, and stopped playing my solo altogether. The guy didn't even notice- just kept right on yakking at another band member, who did notice. The music stopped totally and then he looks up, with a blank look on his face. I told him that I didn't want to drown out his conversation with my bass solo, so I stopped playing. He replied, "Oh, that's OK, I can still talk over it."

I made a rule with the guitard that when we finish a song or are discussing, we turn the volume down on our instruments. It worked...for about 10 minutes.
I used to be guilty of it when I first started playing in bands, usually trying to figure out different basslines for a riff. Now I just write them at home and try the different bass lines during rehearsals.
They arent called guitards for no reason...
cheers,

What REALLY ANNOYS me, is the guitard plays when you are talking so you think "Ok, must appease this tetchy near-bipolar trainwreck, lets join in on his little one-man jam session". Drummer and I join in, I get the key right and everything and guitard stops and just stares like a rhuminating bovine or something. Why did you stop dude? Oh, you didn't think we were playing. Right.

Since someone (usually not me) always decides to ****ing play while I am trying to build a song!! Which takes communication, which, in this case, is most effective when using my vocal chords!
Sorry, it just makes me rage this guy style ---> |

I've learned from this and I turn my volume down to nearly inaudible/completely silent so I can keep playing but no one else hears.

Instead of allowing me 10 seconds to tune a 4 string bass, everybody played and made noise. After 60 seconds of this time wasting, they asked, "Ok, ready to go?"
"No. I need to tune.
"Well what have you been doing?
"Waiting for a chance to tune. I told you I forgot my tuner this ONE TIME IN MY LIFE.
"Ok, go ahead.
Complete repeat of the above - I try to tune, everyone else noodles at full volume.
Repeat the same conversation, and the same result. After 10 minutes of "trying to tune," I lost it. I turned the master volume on my amp from 3 (normal full volume) to 9, and proceeded to tune at 139,423 dB.
Everybody else had a wide eyed expression like, "*** is wrong with THAT guy?"
Quit that band.

If its idle chatter, I'll leave for 5 minutes.
