For some reason I see a lot of Rickenbackers that have been modified. I guess people like the looks but not the sound.

Should this bass be called a Fenderbacker?

The guy has been trying to sell it for months. In the spring, his postings read to the effect that he WOULDN'T sell to you if you wanted to change it back to normal.

Tragic.

Those aren't even real EMG's! Those are Selects designed by EMG! Why the hell would you do that to a Ric? Man, some people...

Happened a lot in the '70s and '80s, apparently.
I figure if you want a Fender sound, then buy a Fender, but some people just have to go at it the hard way.
Now it's worth way less than an unmolested bass, and he's obviously still not happy with it.
Kind of a lose-lose situation.

Not all that good for a project bass, either, though I dare say one could make an 'honest Rick' of it somehow, it would just take a few hundred dollars and some work.

IF I had lots of money to waste, and was close to him,I'd buy the bass then beat him with the poor thing.

Hey...it does come with the original case.

I think back to 1974 when my guitar player bought a brand new Gibson Les Paul Deluxe with a red sparkle finish. Someone almost convinced him the finish was so ugly he should scrape the sparkle off and make it natural. He thought about it, but decided to keep the red sparkle finish. He still has the guitar today and it's worth big bucks because of the semi-rare finish. Sometimes we do dumb things...and sometimes we don't.

He turned his Ric into a PBJ. I bet it could be restored, a little filler and original pickups would get you back in business. Holy cow, this was a $1,500.00 bass once upon a time, he could have bought a Mexican P Bass Deluxe with the same active electronics for $400.00, got the same sound, and kept the Ric stock or sold it at full street value. Doh!

But it IS in "excellent condition." It must be, if he mentions it twice.

It looks like the new pickups are poorly aligned, too.
