In all seriousness, my guitarist and I always talk about what makes things heavy. We play in a doomy/stonerish heavy rock band and we tune to Eb. People always ask us if we tune real low. They never believe me. But as my guitarist always says, heaviness has more to do with tension than actually lowness of the note. It took me a while but, I'm coming around to that line of thinking.

diminished scales are pretty dark.
a lot of metal guitarists have been using harmonic minor a lot too. food for thought.
