Sign in to disble this ad
I honestly didn't know.

So I did a search on youtube and this is the first link I pressed on.

I'm still wiping the tears.

Now I know what a polka band is.

I have to say one of my musical guilty pleasures is Weird Al. In particular, I love his Polka mixes of popular songs. I put his different polkas on my various mixed tapes and listened to them driving around in my car.

IIRC Frankie Yankovic is Weird Al's dad. In any case, Frankie is truly the King and this is definitely in the running for the best Polka tune ever written

Too Fat Polka

Somewhere in my twisted little mind, I've always thought this would be a perfect tune for a bar band. Just right for those occasional times when you need to 'gently discourage' the unwanted attentions of that Special Someone who's about 10 drinks (and about 100 lbs) past her limit and absolutely refuses to take No for an answer

Yeah, you could see him on t.v. and hear him on the radio back in the days if you lived in Northern Ohio. He was a legend, even then...I don't think that he is Weird Al's dad though.

Correct. There is no relation between Frankie and Al Yankovic.

A Polka band is one where, if you complain the Accordion's too loud, he says "Gotta get my TONE, man".

My first thought must now be rejected
It's my mistake - I stand corrected

Jimmy Sturr from Florida, NY is the King of Polka. He's won something like 18 Grammys, which is not all that impressive if you consider that you can count on one hand the number of professional polka bands out there. I swear these guys are just playing the same tune over and over...

And our drummer thinks he's a minimalist with a 3pc kit.

I grew up in NE Ohio and remember "Polka Varieties" every Sunday. Classic, thanks.

On this crazy topic, one of my bands drummer actually makes more money in the polka band he's in, then the rock band he's in with me. His dad is one of those accordian playing local legends. My drummer friend was dragged into the polka band, but now actually enjoys it.

Frankie and Weird Al are not related... there's something on his website about it.
