Smile What really bugs me about forums sometimes...

Sign in to disble this ad
Have you ever seen this? on any forum.

"Welcome to 'widget X' forum a place where we can all have a great time discussing our favorite 'widget X' ... So Let's have fun "

Followed by...

Post Title: NEW 'WIDGET X' IS BROKEN GARBAGE, WHAT NOW !?!

Message: HELLO, THIS IS MY FIRST POST - DON'T HATE ME !!! BUT I JUST PURCHASED 'WIGET X' BASED ON ALL THE POSITIVE REVIEWS. MY BLAH IS STUCK, THE BLAH IS OFF, IMHO THIS IS SOOO OVER-RATED I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU GUYS ARE GETTING THIS GREAT BLAH OUT OF IT. HELP.

Followed by 1st response from senior member: Why are you yelling, Did you plug did you plug it in?

Then: (2nd post) Sorry... Thanks !!! It works... It's soooo smooth and great now. You guys are right - this is the best !!! Happy Camper on board.

Problem solved, but now we have to look at the post title for the next month or so till the thread is dead.

Just a quirky general observation.

I run another forum with a rather large amount of traffic. It's amazing how many times someone will ask the SAME QUESTION, or they'll just assume something is broken/doesn't work/is a POS without actually doing any research on their own.

My favorite:
Which "widget X" should I buy?

You should mellow out some and learn not to let such trivial things bother you.

Unfortunately when you mix the added facility of communication brought on by the information age and couple it with human nature....some negative side effects occur.

But don't fret...one day "Ethics and proper conduct of digital communication" will be a norm in classrooms someday...if family culture hasn't already reared it in children.

Though, I don't think anyone would care what they post online given that no physical contact is involved.

I think the OP is being a little tongue-in-cheek.

What bothers me more: Every question thats been asked before gets the obligatory "use the search feature" and if you think about it... this very issue has been brought up before. So...

I'm guilty too.

(but not of screaming about the thing I just spent a lot of money on is a peace of junk)

I take said product back to the store... get new product, and join that new product forum so I can say happy things.

Haha, I never use the search function, I'll just go out and ask a question when it comes to me. Ive been guilty of starting practically the same thread after having commented in someone elses thread on the same topic.

This is irritating because it's basically you saying you're too lazy to do your own research.

I'm not saying your are, but that's what it comes across as. I'm the type of person to try and find something out on my own before asking.

Yes, it does sound like Im being lazy, but at the same time, if you were to check my posting history, you'd see that its not often that I start threads asking questions that have been asked previously. I always do my own research when I have a question about something, in fact, the comment I made above about forming my own thread after commenting in another was because I had a more specific question then the answers I was reading, and didnt want to derail the original thread.

The sanctimonious types who reply to every question with "use the search function" bug me.

If you think about it, the world of bass is relatively small and Talkbass has been going for some 10 years now...I'm pretty sure that almost every permutation of advice has been requested and very few original questions remain, so almost every question could be answered by a curmudgeonly response to use the search function - Maybe the whole forum should just be one big search function with no questions allowed and no talk at all?

What else bugs me? The narrow minded smugness of people who respond to what they perceive as a mildly controversial post with the peurile "IBTL"...you can just imagine these are the same people who used to snitch at school - "Ooooh, you wait till teacher finds out"

Oh...and people who pronounce that somebodies thread deserves to be marked as a a 'Fail' by posting a lame picture of a comedy cat with some pathetic "You Fail" caption - Have these people no sense of irony
