Last night I dreamed I joined a new band. Guys were tight, with great originals but they just lost their bassist so I was asked to join.
When I showed up with my Jazz, I was told "Oh no, we're sponsored by ... EPIPHONE! you will have to play this:" and I was passed a bizarre tiny short scale headless bass which turned out to be a toy with plastic strings and lots of flashing buttons.
Dreams are so stoopid.

I need to see a pyschiatrist.

| | | | Last night, I had the king of stupid bass dreams. At first it wasn't related to bass at all, but I guess I won't tell that part.
In my dream, I was coming home from school on the bus, and for some reason I had my bass with me, outside its case, neck in my hand, strap pin on the floor. A bunch of people in my grade, my best friend, that cocky guitarist who actually rides my bus were there, and my dad was driving the bus. My dad said a couple of things that kind of embarrassed me, but it wasn't a huge deal. I was strumming the open strings on my bass, and the cocky guitar kid kept making snide remarks. I got home, and my dad was there working as if he had never been driving the bus at all. I noticed that head stock of best bass was bent around the back of its neck, warping the first 2 frets to the point where they couldn't be played. In my dream this translated into not being able to my the highest 3 frets which wasn't a big deal, but still I was really freaked out about the whole thing. I was considering going to TalkBass for help, but first went to my dad. By the time I showed it to him, the whole body had bent, deeming my bass completely unplayable. Eep! Neither of us knew what to do, so we decided to take it to the shop though we didn't really know what they could do about it. Maybe melt it back into shape? I also decided that the bass must've gotten warped in English which had turned into a sewing/chemistry class (earlier in my dream), and the fire melted and bent my bass.
I woke up extremely relieved to find my bass fine.

We were doing a gig or something at a train station (in the corner...actually blocking the ticket window completely) with a couple other bands and for some reason I had to leave or something...I managed to get back in time to find my bass leaning against the amp whilst everyone was packing up and the guitarists guitar was also against the amp and had slipped and was now leaning on my bass, I got annoyed and someone said "ah it doesn't matter" - now, there was no damage to it or anything but I was still like "Doesnt matter?! This bass isn't like any of those crap beaten up ones they lend out at college you know, its a Fender - you have no idea what this bass means to me!" then I picked it up and woke up...
Now, I graduated from UNI about 3 years ago now...I think I actually know where this dream came from - we did a gig a few days ago and I left the said bass with our guitarist coz I had to run for a train, then we did another one the next day and my bass was in the car I wasn't traveling back in and they only got back at the same time my dad turned up to take me home, so I very nearly left it with them twice...weather or not this was on my mind afterwards I don't know for sure, but thats where it came from. Oh yeah, I wasn't playing with the current band or anyone I knew in my dream from what I remember but the people were like my old college students y'know...only they didn't appear to look after my bass as well.
Thats a crazy one...I've been freaking out about it recently actually coz the sound is more unbalanced than I remember, but then again I've not played it for a year and a half now so I'm just not as used to it as I was...

I was in my apartment making french toast, when my phone rings, and it's mother wishing me a happy birthday. I was a little perplexed that I had forgotten my own birthday, but she told me to take train back to my parent's place because she had a surprise for me.
So I arrived at my parent's house, and she presents me with a very strange looking mandolin... Beautifully carved flamed maple...but it was a mandolin. I thought to myself "this is kind of random, but whatever, now I have a mandolin to fiddle with".
So then I look at the headstock and my jaw drops as I see the abalone butterfly inlay, and my mother says "yep' it's a Fodera!". I asked her how much it cost her and she told me it was about $4100. at this point I think, this is really cool, but what use do I have for a mandolin built by a boutique bass builder? So I try to sell it to fund a new bass instead, but the mandolin crowd was looking down on it because Fodera has never made mandolins, and the bass crowd thought it was cool, but wouldn't buy it.
Odd.

In the 'Luthiers Corner' thread, bassgod76 is trying to build a replica of Jaco's Bass of Doom.
Now in my dream, he finishes it but decides he doesn't like it, so he gives it to me.
(hint hint)

It included a friend who is a "gitard turned bassist" who has a Warwick and is playing for a very popular local band, which makes me a bit envious as I would love to have a vintage Thumb bass and a gig like that. Anyway, in the dream I had finally gotten a Warwick but it had all these extra guitar strings mounted all over it, like drones or something.
That's all I remember about it. I need to get out and play....

Then I met some other chick during an encore performance by Future Man. Anway for some reason I had my bass with me and left it in the middle of the parking lot to talk to someone (????) and when I went back for it it wasn't in the case. Then me and the buddy's ex-gf went back to her place and I opened up the case and there it was! But some vandal had completely trashed it...
I started crying and woke up.
