I just got back from a special service at a pretty big church. I was asked to play bass at this since they wanted a big band to play. I'm not a member of this church but I help them out on Sunday for their Spanish service. I play bass at my church about 5 miles down the road in the morning and then head over there afterwards for a 3 o'clock Spanish service. They have 3 other bassists but for some reason they wanted me. I felt honored that they asked me since it's not my personal church.
Anyway, I was there playing for about 200+ people. Everyone was grooving and enjoying themselves. After the service I had several people come up to me and thank me for playing. The compliment came when the Spanish worship leader came up to me thanked me and then all the other musicians said that they were glad that I came out and that they loved playing with me. The worship leader then said to me that the main worship leader leaned over and told her, "You know you have a great bass player don't you". When she told me that I was floored and humbled. I really appreciated the compliment and felt a little more confident than when I walked in 3 hours earlier. You never know what a few kind words can do to someone's self esteem.

First time I've been happy with a solo too. The action on my Kay is a good inch off the FB, so pulling off a decent and long solo and getting applause from an audience unaware of my bass's limitations was a real treat for me as a performer.

I was in a equipped rehearsal room that you rent by the hour, and the guitarist had problems with the supplied rig. The owner/manager comes in to fix the guitar rig as I'm just practicing some lines and scales to warm up. He says, ''ah, a bass player that knows what he's doing''. From a guy who makes a living booking rooms and listening to musicians day in and day out, it was appreciated.

ahhhhhh that felt nice
oh yea, and "Your setup is strange, it comes in so many small pieces...but it sounds great" |

I wasn't that great at the time, less than a year ago, but I guess I impressed her some how some how (In fact another bandmate was playing the slab right before me - way better and playing way more complicated stuff.)
