Do you mean "while playing bass?"
In that case it would have to be producing notes, I guess.

several things really

it introduced me to music i would of otherwised missed if i was just a standard music fan a lot of my weirder music inspiration comes from finding stuff on the web while looking for other stuff or being introduced to new sounds from other muso's infact even though i'm a big metal fan and play in a metal band i'd of never of discovered the likes of max roach or charles mingus if it wasnt for playing bass

it also introduced me to cool friends infact my best mates now are either old band members or current band members and the common ground for all of us at parties or social gatherings is always music

i've seen some cool places and played with cool people plus have had some of the most fun imaginable on the road or at a gig there's never a dull moment in the band when beer and travel is involved

and last but not least groupies some of the best nights i've had after road trips or gigs have been in the beds of loose women with low self esteem

that do ya?

Notes are kinda neat, but i'm guessing you've never had sex while playing your bass.

OH! I see what you meant now OP. Ummm I guess it would have to be playing on stage and watching everyone move to your notes. You know?

feeling the holy spirit move. (Wednesday youth band). 2nd would be getting tons of applause and a nice sized audience at a gig.

Whoah. That beats mine... on both fronts.

I don't actually know the best part. I got flashed once while playing, but I think most of us have.

I've had a half-full pitcher of beer whipped at my head. Not exactly 'best,' but definitely 'interesting.' I ducked; the amp didn't. Expensive night.

Once, I saw the man who'd just stopped being our Prime Minister walk into the pub for a drink while we were playing.

For any Canadians out there, It was former Liberal leader Paul Martin. I stepped up to the mike between songs and said 'NDP: It's my party... and I'll cry if I want to.' He was pretty cool with it. Came up and said 'hi' afterwards.

But that was more interesting and fun than 'awesome' or 'the best thing.'

Once, we'd just finished bringing the house down with 'Home for a Rest' by Spirit of the West and someone shouted out that I was an 'incredible' bass player.

The reason that's so cool is two-fold:
1) it ended my percention that *nobody* knows what a bass is, and
2) that song kicks my arse everytime I play it, so having actually nailed the bassline that night was the better part of the moment.

Having people applaud my solo. Like, two or three.

I'm not kidding, it really happened. I have a recording.

When I started out, the drinking age was 18 -- which meant that 16 year old girls were getting into clubs with fake I.D.s I was working 6 nights a week and at least twice a week I'd go home with somebody.

Ah, those were the days.

Today, the best thing that happens to me while I'm playing is when I'm playing well, the room sounds good and the people are diggin' it. Can't beat it.
