A couple of years ago the school band I played in used to play to all the students and teachers at school endings before summer. There were aproximately 700 people each time, and we played three times per school ending.

Although I've played with some semi-major groups and done a few gigs of up to 5,000 people, the biggest gig I've done was a NFL halftime show in 1982 (Vikings vs. Saints) at the old Met Stadium (This was before the current Metrodome) in Minneapolis. I'm not sure of the exact number but I know it was upwards of 40,000. Unfortunately they weren't ALL there for us. |

Although the most fun was a few weeks ago. There was only 60 people there, but just about everyone was into it. We were even focrced to do an encore.
I like the smaller clubs when they are packed. |

We played a hotel to an audience of about 2000, all of whom paid $400 a pop to see us. They were all high rollers, politicos, etc. We did a nice long show for them. Anyway, the promoter asked us to do a set for the folks, mostly teens and not wealthy, at a sports stadium. I'm guessing maybe 15, 000. We hit just before dawn and watched the sun come up while onstage. I was playing my 5-string Azola Bug thru a huge subbed system. Big fun; champagne breakfast after, pretty surreal. The best part was, the gig was on Sunday, but the next flight back to Hawai'i wasn't 'til Wednesday. Now THAT's a layover.... |

It was in Mazatlán, México.. It was my University´s "Festival de la Canción". It´s the only time I´ve traveled to another city just to play bass.. What a great feeling.. |

In april I will be playing in another project band (funk/rock) on some sort of weekend conference, they expect about 800 people there, will be great too.....
btw. both the gigs last weekend and the one coming up in april are with the same drummer, which is nice. I like to play with a drummer I know well, makes things sound a lot tighter....

I guess God listens as well which is real cool........and he doesn't complain when i kick in my Meatball, and rip the building apart
Mind you God doesn't have denchers which shake every time a hit a note
Peace

Bass- I just had my first bass gig last night. School jazz band performed at school. We made a lot of $ for the band program. I sounded great, or so I was told, and I have only been playing for like six months. Reading standard notation and knowing the notes on the neck are a bit of a challenge. It was great. Most fun I've had in a long time. My mom recorded it. Soon I hope to get some audio clips of my rockin bass lines.
anyway, 50-70 ppl there.
great gig |

Most gigs are in the 300-500 people range.

I've played for over 100,000 people, in the Rose Bowl Jan 1, 1993. Every home game at the University of Washington is generally sold out (or very close to it), so those were in front of 70,000+ (and I did that for 6 years). I was playing 1st trumpet in marching band.
btw - if you think an hour is bad... you should try marching the Rose parade. It's almost 6 miles and you get to do this just before going to the game to march there too (pre-game and halftime). I really felt for the bass drummers and the tuba players.
