The dummest (sic) guitarist quotes has been pretty popular, so I thought I might ask, what's the dumbest thing a fellow bass player ever said.
My cousin has said some brilliant things and has always been a good friend, an all around great (although bizarre) guy... but he's also said some dumb stuff as well. Here's one he said to me while we were checking out some basses at a shop when I was looking to buy a one:
Him: That's how you know a guitar player is playing a bass. (I play guitar as well)
Me: How?
Him: You pick it up and you tune it.
Me: Huh?
Him: I never tune my basses unless I'm performing... just bend the note until it sounds right.
Me: Okayyy...
Granted, I've heard more dumb things from guitarists, but bass players are not exceptions to saying silly things...
What have you heard?

I don't want this to be a thread where we bash each other... of all the forums that I've participated in, even if only for a short while, TBers are by far, as a group, the coolest...

As far as TB is concerned, this is honestly BY FAR the BEST online community I have EVER participated in! Bass players and just fun, cool, smart people. Anyone who doesn't realize that is as blind as a bat.

Anyone who doesn't realize that is as blind as a bat. | As an (at-least-aspiring) multi-instrumentalist I've been involved in forums for sax, guitar and drums before I started coming to TB... and I never stayed for more than maybe 3 days. Perhaps it's that I love playing bass more than any other instrument... or maybe it really is that bass players are cooler... not sure... but this is an awesome community...
That doesn't, however, mean we can't make fun of a few other stupid people who happen to play bass...
so come on people! What's the dumbest thing another bass player ever said to you!?

When another bassist said that to me at a gig, I thought that was pretty stupid. Of course, I was playing and he was watching, getting loaded, and striking out with any member of the female species that he got near!

That one never gets old. Bring your own gear to your gig, yo.
Never really had any dumb comments from bassists, though. Maybe it's because most of them are fairly educated about musical instruments and have common sense.

I still find it absurd that amp companies have not fully switched over to speakon cables.
