that is unless you're SQUAREPUSHER haha he doesn't really get into techno/trance but electronica i guess (the genres get so confusing) seriously though he is a badass bassist as well as a badass DJ.

as far as boring genres go, I feel like the genre is only as boring for a bassist as he is allowed to be. there is almost always cases where bassists are noticeably more active or at least more involved than have the other groups in a genre, so I can't say one for certain.

Gotta disagree with you on the blues, nasnederis. We play kick@ss blues in our band, and I'm never bored for a second.
Even on the slow stuff, how can putting heart and soul into a song be boring? And...I support an entire band, not just a guitard. Now, to answer your question, I suppose Gregorian chants might be on the boring side, but you never know!

This is not a fair question due to everyone having different tastes and styles they are attracted to and play! You are bored by blues, I like blues! Someone said they're bored by Funk (really???), I love and live for Funk!

There are styles I'm not attracted to but I wouldn't say they were boring. I just gravitate towards any type of booty shakin' music with good melodies. Doesn't matter the style so much!

If you put your heart into it, how can ANY music be boring? There are some genre's I don't especially like personally, but "boring?" NAH - unless you really don't want to play!

+1.1

I'd rather lock in and improvise with a tasteful blues guitarist or old-school country band ANY day! There is plenty of space for moving around the melody and chord structure, and supporting the lyric. The important thing is: you're there to serve the song.

IMHO, backing bassists for guitar virtuosi must be pretty bored. So shred metal it is for me. The bass is so far back in the priority list that most shredder dudes do it themselves. That speaks VOLUMES.

*Edit*:Billy Sheehan (Vai, Gilbert), Juan Alderete (Racer X) are exceptions.

anything where the bass part is only 4 notes played each 4 or 8 times, like sum 41

I mean for me, the fun is all in the challenge, otherwise I'm bored to death

+1 for techno/trance/electronica and country, in that order. Nothing against either genre; they just tend to under-utilize what I am capable of, and if I am not contributing vocally, that's where the boredom will set in.
