The drummer brought this girl that he's been trying to bag for months to practice so that he could show off his drumming and singing skills. At the end of practice he asked her "how'd we do?" and she replied "i don't know, but zack (rhythm guitard) is REALLY hot!"

Funniest thing EVER!

A few winter ago, a friend and I were going to open jam night at a local bar, it was snowing like mad. It took me 25 minutes to drive 12 blocks. We get there and the owner and a bartender are there, noone else. They say you can play if you want,but we might close pretty soon. We said thanks, but we were hoping a drummer would show up. At that moment, 2 guys come in from the storm and ask if its still open jam night. We say yeah but were waiting for a drummer to show. Both these guys were drummers, so we started playing, switching drummers every couple of songs. The storm let up a bit and people started making it downtown for a drink, we were the only band playing live that night. Within an hour the bar is packed, played for hours. The most fun I've had playing.

that rock star feeling.... good times

about a year and a half ago we took a road trip up to New London Connecticut, (we are a Manhattan based band) and there was a really really big Boston based band band headlining that night.

we get there and we find out that we were supposed to have sold tickets, we were under the impression that there was a door person taking tally like at 99% of the other places we have played. (jerk owner didn't tell us we were supposed to sell tickets)

anyway, we got the biggest draw, at least 10 times bigger then the really big Boston band. And while the event was still going on, videos of our performance end up being on the clubs website as the band that stole the show... Every other week since then, the owner e-mails us asking to come back... WIN!

Recent band moment - I was asked to sub for a guy who was taking his girlfriend to the Bahamas. I said, "Sure, I'll take his girlfriend to the Bahamas." They really meant the gig, though. It was an outdoor gig at a park in a small town. An extremely attractive blonde walks in with a rather low cut tank top on. She sits down directly in my line of sight. I lean over to the drummer and get him to check her out while extolling her physique and wardrobe. At the break, said drummer walks over to the table and starts talking to her. It was clear that she was his girlfriend and that my life was in imminent danger. So before we start the second set, I said that I hope I wasn't in trouble for checking out his girlfriend. He said we were cool because I was really helping them out of a jam. Sigh of relief because he could have easily taken me apart. It sure made a simple sub job exciting.

A few months ago in college, simple gig with a guitarist and vocalist..before i started out on bass, i was playing guitar n drums..well, more of a drummer..So guys at my college kinda know me as a drummer and no1 knew that i was a bassist in the making
So, there we were beside the stage, waiting for our gig and all the while all the black-T's-long haired-guitards were snickering at me, thinking i'd FAIL as a bassists.
but to their surprise, i played very well that day (with a little help from a bassist/friend of mine of course ) ... you should have seen their faces after the gig.. PRICELESS!!

ive played a lot of awesome gigs. a lot of bad ones too.

best thing i can remember right now aside from playing great music is a 60th bday party i got booked for around 2 years ago. we were paid pretty well, even by the event-pay standards. the husband + wife who hired us after the gig gave each of the band members an envelope with a card in it, and an extra $400.

the party was also lots of fun and we were encouraged to play originals and jam a lot, witch was fun since we were getting paid for it.

In the 8 years of playing, I was in a band for a whole 6 days. My best moment was just sitting there with a band.. period

1983. Seal Beach, Ca. i lived in a duplex with this tiny garage we jammed in. we had heard stories that Bill Ward of Black Sabbath was staying (on occasion) with the couple that stayed in the apt. downstairs. we were all starstruck as Black Sabbath was a hugely influential band for all of us. turns out to be true and in the following weeks we would see him coming and going and say "hi Bill" like starstruck knuckleheads. one day we are jamming away when the door opens and there is Bill Ward in a wifebeater, tennis headband, a towel around his shoulders and drumsticks in his hands. he very politely asks if he could sit in for a song or two. we all mumbled yes nearly incoherently except for our drummer who practically falls off his set sayng what an honor it would be for Bill to play on his set. he sits down and hits a couple of bass and snare notes then looks at us one by one and in his thick cockney accent says "no guitar solos, no bass solos and no drum solos......lets just f&ckin jam!"
we jam and actually do a great job keeping up with him, playing miles above ourselves for a brief moment in time. he takes a moment and compliments us individually on our playing and thanks the drummer for letting him use his set. he then heads back out the door. leaving some very stoked teenagers asking themselves if that really just happened.

The first time we jammed out on one of our fan favorite songs for 8 minutes. It is now the stage favorite and the closer to our shows.

Our first paid gig. There's nothing like one's first pay-day for play-day.

So far;

Getting hired to play a Musexpo gig in LA at the Whisky A Go-Go and being a member of the only band that night to get an encore.

Playing a major label showcase as a hired gun and helping score the artist a development deal.

Spending 6 of the craziest weeks ever in Inuvik NWT playing 6 nights a week and meeting some of the coolest folks I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Waking up in the van on any given day knowing that I'm somewhere new, get to play a gig, and get paid to do it.

I think I may be making some new favorite moments in the next couple of months;

Opening for a Canadian country music star tonight...

Playing a gig at a local stage that has been on my bucket list for like 10 years

Playing on Canada day on another stage that has been on my bucket list since it was built.

I could go on....

I am really looking forward to the next few months....

Playing Winter NAMM with my band, and looking out into the crowd and seeing Megadeth smiling and bobbing their heads. It put the biggest smile on my face.
